According to the Animenewsnetwork, Gintama: Shinyaku Benizakura-Hen will finally be dubbed in English by Sentai Filmworks, with Chris Patton as the voice of Sakata Gintoki. Chris Patton is known for being the voice of Souske Sagara from Full Metal Panic!, Greed from Fullmetal Alchemist, Itsuki Minami from Air Gear and Lavi from D.Gray-man. Interstingly enough, Gintoki's seiyuu, Tomokazu Sugita and Chris Patton both shared a role in the Japanese and English translation of Baccano, where both Sugita and Patton voiced Graham Spector. (The monkey wrench guy from the bonus episode of 14) The movie will be directed by Kyle Jones.

So, what do you think of the news? For me, I'm actually one of the most lenient person I know when it comes to dubs. I don't even mind the One Piece dub, but I must say that Chris Patton's voice is not as deep as Tomokazu Sugita's. But I have a feeling that I will grow to like it; mostly because Patton is one my favorite voice actors.

So now, here is the question of this topic: Since they are making it into a dub, who is your ideal cast? Who do you hope they cast?

For me
:
Gintoki: Crispan Freeman (PERFECT)
Shinpachi: Derek Stephan Price (PERFECT)
Kagura: Laura Bailey or Hilary Haag (PERFECT)
Hijikita: Steve Blum (PERFECT)
Sougo: Todd Haberkorn or Yuri Lowenthal
Kondo: I can't think of anyone....
Katsura: Again...I can't think of anyone...I feel it should be at the tip of my tongue.
Sakamoto: Michael Lindsay (PERFECT)
Haswegawa: David Lodge (PERFECT)
Tae: Kate Higgins or Wendee Lee or Leah Clark
Kamui: Johnny Young Bosch (I picture Lelouch's or Renji's fake smiled voice)
Takasugi: Kirk Thorton (PERFECT)

What about you? Do you agree? disagree? What's your ideal cast? What do you think of Gintama being dubbed?

I don't know much about english speaking voice actors, but I don't think they're as many as Japanese seyiuu. So the movie can pass, but if they'll dub the actual series a lot of VA will have to play different roles lol. Anyway agree with you with Johnny Bosh for Kamui, or Takasugi too.

Yup only the movie. I think the movie is acting as a trial-run where they are going to see how well the dubbed movie will be received by the English-speaking fans, and how much sales and profits the company makes. If it does well, they might dub the series.

I'm really excited for this! Thank you for sharing the information about the dubs!! (≧▽≦)
kekeke~ I don't hate dubs, sometimes when I'm lazy I'll just watch the dub versions...(^v^)

I honestly can't wait until next year for the Gintama Series to return, so the dubs would give me something new to watch! I'm not able to list my ideal cast because even though I watch the dub versions of some series, I don't remember the English CV's names...I know Vic Mignogna, Crispan Freeman (I agree, he would make a great Gintoki), Laura Bailey...and that's it...

thanks for sharing again!! (≖‿≖)

I agree, Crispin Freeman would make the perfect Gintoki, in fact I agree with most of your choices there especially Johnny Yong Bosch as Kamui, he has that whole douchebag voice thing going on like he has for Orihara Izaya in Durarara!! so I think he'd be a great fit for him.

Personally, I'd prefer Yuri Lowenthal as Sougo over Todd Haberkorn however I don't really think either of them would make brilliant fits, mostly because Sougo's voice is so monotone.
