I still think there are more guy otaku than girls. One of the main reasons why you might be meeting more girl otaku is because (in my opinion) most of the girl otaku who go to conventions, join anime clubs, etc. tend to be more extroverted than their guy counterparts. I think a lot of guy otaku keep to themselves more. Also, I have way more guy friends who watch anime who don't actually go out flaunting the fact that they watch it. Girl otaku tend to be more open about their anime interests.

I might not be making any sense, but basically what I'm trying to say is maybe ratio of guys/girls that you meet and see at cons is about equal, but there are many more guy otaku out there who you don't actually see.

I'm a female otaku, and I knew some that were in my college English class a few years ago (I'm not in college anymore, but......). My brother's girlfriend likes anime, too.

You'd be surprised to know just how many of us are out there. And, sometimes you can tell who is one just by looking at one of us. A few months ago, I was at my local movie theater to see The Secret World of Arrietty, and saw a girl, maybe in her teens or early 20's with a Totoro backpack. I immediately knew that we were there to see the same movie......and I was right ; I soon saw her enter the same screening room that Arrietty was playing in.

In my anime club that has about 50 members, with about 30+ as regulars, there's one female, and she is a horrid creature. Kinda ruined my expectations of female otakus (she's also HARDCORE otaku, as in, dresses in full Lolita fashion every day on campus). I mean, there's nothing bad with being a hardcore otaku, because I guess I am one, but I still limit myself in social settings. If I ever meet a female anime-lover that typical anime makes them out to be, I'm pretty sure they'll be my insta-wife.

Well, being an Otaku isn't really a taboo anymore. Among other once derogatory terms like geek, nerd, and etc. It's now the norm for most people. Only when someone tries to represent their fandom (cosplay, etc), does it become weird for some people. Those types of people who want to distance themselves from being that type of fan, are more likely to be secretive about being an Otaku. I've met Otaku who made it clear to me, they never cosplay and cosplayers are to be shunned in their eyes.

It's probable there's more secret Otakus out there who just aren't open about it.

I've met the odd female Otaku. And at some of the anime conventions I've gone too, it does kinda feel like the numbers of female cosplayers rival if not outnumber the guys. Granted, I've only ever been to Anime conventions in Edmonton. So I can't speak for any other city.

It's difficult to know with certainty if women outnumber the men as otakus. It's possible. If not, at the very least watch Anime once in a while or have one Anime show they look back on fondly.

There is no such thing as a female otaku, they do not exist.

In fact, "Otaku" Is only a disease that infects insects.

All of the Otaku that you know are actually giant bugs posing as humans.

Do not let them into your home, they aren't able to enter unless you allow them. Please heed this warning.

So that's what "Naked Lunch" was really about... clears up everything.

I hide my power-level unless the topic of anime, manga, or Japanese culture arises. I'm sure I've met TONS of people who are into anime/manga but were too shy or afraid to say anything about it. I, will always be a closet otaku. If someday I decide to go to a CON or festival, I will not take or post pictures on social media. I will not fault. I will simply just go and enjoy.

I believe there isn't many girl otaku's because most girls don't find much anime interesting but then again they do but fan girls of yaoi and shit for me don't count as otaku's sure we can say "i don't judge" but in the future or some point we will or do and those who say otherwise are liers or just plain stupid because everyone does its human nature either ways i say there are more guys otaku's than heck because finding the right attractive girl otaku is hard and she might be pretty and all but surrounded by guy otaku's normal guys and maybe lezbians and the fight wouldn't be worth it sure you can say i'm not worth her for not fighting but spending all that time is pointless if you might be friend zoned or rejected let alone her knowing that guys want her which i'm sure is more of a fight like a near endless one and that leads to moving on and finding a new girl similar to the one before which is the same but idk maybe luck can help or something depending on the guys looks because girls are huge liers about that and deny it

Was this even English? I've no clue what you were trying to say here.

I don't think proper grammer (get it?) and other things of that nature fully exist on most forums. As for me, there could be more female 'otaku' than male you never know. You could take a census on the matter, I'd start locally if I were you.

During middle school I only knew mostly girls to be anime watchers, and one guy. Although all he watched was hentai and ecchi anime.

If you ever see me you'll never guess I watch anime. I'm not the type to make it a point to anyone that I watch anime.

Although I assume there are more guys that watch anime than girls. I see anime like video games, not much anime are directed at girls except the shojo and romance anime.

you'd be suprised how many "hidden" otaku there are in the world!

I think because of the otaku stereo type most people who watch anime aren't very open about it unless they know the other person is into it too. I don't even talk to my friends about it even though they don't dislike it. Generally most people who don't watch anime find people that do as strange. In my case, I don't parade around letting the world know i watch it, but I don't hide it either...

I love watching anime been watching it for about 15 years, but it was until I got older that thing started to change. There were some anime that I would not watch because there is always some type of girl that always need saving or a female character was always trying to hold the male lead back, it got kind of annoying at times so I just stop watching it all together. Though I still watch anime it mostly with more males and less females and I also like yaoi and I know others girls who do too. I guess we can be call otaku girl or not. LOL!
