XMBC is a viewing platform, not a media copying or distribution system.

This plugin does not circumvent any copy protection, it does not break DRM, it merely streams the videos you have access to. If you are a premium member it means you have access to higher resolution videos.

I also petition for CR to either support this plugin or officially release a version with subtitle capability.

FALSE, Crunchyroll uses SWF Verify 2 and RTMPE streaming encryption. When the plugin was in early stages Maruchan was trying to figure a work around for the subtitles because like the video, subtitles are also encrypted. XBMC uses a SWF Verify circumvention and encryption has been reversed for RTMPE. In order to use XBMC for watching Crunchyroll, HULU, or various online media outlets that use RTMPE streams to stream video you are knowingly breaking the security using XBMC plugins. The fact that most XBMC users are unaware of how to adjust advanced settings (xml editing) and lack python knowledge means that they just stream the video. An advanced use could easily adjust the script to dump the RTMPE stream and adjust the cache to fit a whole episode

not the point the use of the plugin is meant as an alternative to using the site a raspberry pi using this plugin can stream 1080 to a tv using low power and is dead silent. that's what i see it good for. if someone is going to dl a episode there are easier ways to do it. pirates are going to get a hold of whatever they want anyway. drm has not stopped anyone before and it wont likely ever will.

It was just an example, and of course there are easier ways to obtain stolen media. Doesn't stop the fact that the plugin breaks TOS

This has been rendered into a non-issue.

1. The plugin no longer works.
2. Chrome 21 has enough hardware accel in Linux to play properly Crunchyroll videos.

Actually Maruchan's original Crunchyroll no longer works, it was forked and is maintained by Yoshi of the Wire. Crunchyroll Takeout is the plugin in question and as I explained it violates TOS.

If you ran Linux with a low powered processor like an E-450, the XBMC plugin was your only choice to watch Crunchyroll properly.

Fortunately, that's no longer the case anymore. So I'm happy again.

BTW, Chrome 23 HW accel under Linux is even better.

Spring forum cleaning! Since it's a new month I'm closing all the old threads in room for the new ones. We close old threads from 6 months past with no activity. Please recreate if you wish to do so!
