So, is annulment even necessary after you've murdered the idiots responsible for screwing you over?

it's just all wrong and i really don't understand as to how families, even in the worst of conditions can just wed off their children to some other family.
how do you know how your child will turn out in the future?
where does their happiness go?

Survival is a strong motivator. If you are stripped of your Western ideals and don't have the money to feed a child, marrying them into a family who could potentially provide for them, and subsequently yourself, might not seem like such a terrible idea. Even a beating doesn't seem like such a bad exchange for continued life. The problem is rooted in financial disparity... the extremes people in poverty will go to secure wealth and the extent the wealthy will go to sustain it. Just getting rid of arranged marriages is like cutting a weed with a lawn mower instead of yanking it out from the root.

Yes exactly as you point out. Most people living in the west do not understand what condition these people live in. Life isn't as simple as living to find your true love when you don't even have food to eat 3 times a day. I have personally seen first hand the terrible conditions these people live in, they have no food to eat, no treatment to the most basic of diseases. In that kind of scenario forget love, you struggle at just thinking about what will happen to you the next day. So they tend to resort to marrying off their daughters to ridiculously old men or richer families with a small ransom of money hoping that their daughters will at least be alive. But this leads to men treating women as their property and beating them up or doing other horrendous things.

None of this is ideal, none of it is right, but unfortunately that is the world that they live in, which is very different than the one we live in. When one looks at the bigger picture, we are truly lucky to be able to live the lives we live in. Even our biggest of problems pale in comparison to what these people face on a daily basis

Freedom from this form of slavery won't come anytime soon, for most of these girls, unfortunately.

If this article interested you, you may also wish to direct your attention to a few additional problems that women are facing, as well.

Personally I find it kind of wierd that the focus is on Laxmi (18) and her suprisingly even-aged husband when apparantly there's arranged marriages between 8 year old girls and 58 year old men.. That's just sick.. Though I guess it's good that progress is made, I'd just wish it'd be aimed more towards the younger girls.

And that an court saw no reason to end a marriage between an 8 year old girl and an 58 year old man just makes me lose faith in their entire culture.. Unfortunately in the end there's not much anyone can do unless they're willing to do for themselves, aside from educating people about what actually goes on around the world..

Tell me why should I AnimeKami, care?

I'm not trying to be an ass, but seriously enlighten me on why I should care.

It is a nice post I'm sure, I didn't read all of it just the title and the first few lines so it may have played a role in me typing the above.

refrain from posting in this thread if you're not planning on contributing to it.

As for the post, it's disgusting how some of these traditions are still being used in this day in age.
I'm sure it's a small facet of their culture but eventually there needs to be progression.
Women are treated like dirt in some of these countries. It's not the middle ages anymore.

Miss Moderator,

First, I'd like to address the fact that you quoted me specifically because my "post" made me sound like a bias ass that didn't care about women in which you specifically said I had (might) nothing to contribute to the thread. God forbid DeusExMachine also posted something that has nothing to contribute to the thread, yet because of the tone of his post he did not receive a type of warning from you.

Second, my saying "why I should care" has much more meaning than you might have made it sound, this is a forum for discussion in which caring about the topic at hand also plays a role, if the starter of the thread provided more substantial evidence for me to proceed further (as I am unfamiliar in this area, why else would I ask for reasons) I'd love to do so; however the moment is she hasn't.

Now MIss Moderator, you may proceed to ban me if you feel fit because I'm obviously the asshole that will not contribute to the thread, or you can let the starter of the thread quote me and provide more reasons and allow me to further discuss in this thread.

i wont ban you, users here are so quick to assume such things.
Just play nice.

Eh....it's shitty and it is what it is but it's good to know things may slowly change.

Heh...in the U.S. and other prosperous countries males still generally view women as inferior or as having to attend to the "housewife" role in ADDITION to working--sometimes as much as the man of the house.

Does the average indian slave woman have to go out and work 40+ hours a week IN ADDITION to sexing up the little freak she married whenever he rolls over with a boner, raising whatever children they squirt out, taking care of the meals and house-chores, and generally doing just about anything possibly imaginable to make ensure her asshole of a man barely has to lift a finger outside of work?

GET A JOB, then maybe you can complain.

Personally I'd give up the right to vote and all that shit in order to forgo the full-time job and just be the gay ass bitch that every man eventually wants you to become when it comes down to it.
