People aren't lying exactly, it's more of an Internet persona that they adopt to become something/someone (you choose, meh) that they wish they were. Pursuing perfection I guess. If you are in need of any active examples of internet personas i encourage you to log onto Facebook. I have friends IRL that act completely different on Facebook and im sure you do to...assuming you have Facebook.

Internet personas can go further than just hiding information, i am ok if people choose to do that. I am not one who feels comfortable in giving away personal information such as the location of my home One thing that I see more often is the will act as something else, an imitation of what you wish you were, a fear of being judged and so to combat this fear people will change their attitude and personality. In doing this people become sheep and try to fit in with the crowd. In saying this please do not begin to think that I believe I am above others, I just speak from experience. I used to change my personality online so that maybe people would see me differently and that I may be 'accepted'. I learned over time however that my Internet life, my second life, was simply a living lie. So I decided to just be myself online, and that's what everyone should do. |
