Well animation costs a lot and good animators don't come cheap. Look at all those frames they have to do, especially animators like Ryo Onishi. It is a little annoying that the animation most of the time is pretty standard, but Toei animation isn't particularly known for it's animation. They are starting to step it up though in terms of animation I think. Some of the animations they do for Toriko are very well done and I don't think One Piece's animation is as bland as it used to be. Ever since Enies Lobby it's slowly gotten better imo. If they do actually do filler I don't think it would be an entire arc. If they do do filler episodes I would like to see some more stuff from their training during those 2 years. Yes, I agree. The animation has gotten much better but I never disliked in the first place. Yes, with so many episodes (and frames of course), they would most certainly have to lower their standard of quality in animation for various reasons. On the plus side though, it should give younger animators a chance to hone their craft and be a part of something special. |

Also considering the length of One Piece, they have plenty of room to experiment with different animators. Over the years it seems like Toei started to get better animators and they will most likely continue to do so. Naoki Tate's animation seems to be the most used throughout the show though. He is the lead animator after all and even did full episodes for the show. Anyway I won't get too caught up with this much longer haha. Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide On another note I'm excited to see Punk Hazard in the anime and I can't even begin to describe how excited I am for their other adventures in the New World. I'm eagerly awaiting Coby's reintroduction to see how far he's come. Hopefully he's at least made it to Marine Officer rank. I doubt 2 years is enough to become an Admiral, but who knows. And I can't wait to see Luffy finally meet Dragon and even for Ussop to meet Yassop finally once Shank's crew finally shows up again. There's so much to look forward to omg. |

Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide I'm excited to get an explanation for that apple changing into a devil fruit. I know that the obvious explanation is that Smiley died and its devil fruit powers transferred into the nearest fruit, but I want to see an official explanation. Everyone is saying that the guy with the hat is Lucci, if it is well no complaints from me. I'm most excited to know who told Chopper not to do anything. A lot of people are saying Monet. Personally I would love if it was Vegapunk. Awesome chapter this week, but WSJ is on a break next week so no new chapter until 2 weeks! |

Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide While I do think powers jump to a new fruit when a user is dead, I don't think jumping to Nearest Fruit is right. It would make it too easy for people to collect powers. Just hunt Users while carrying a bag of apples and pretty soon you have a whole crew of power users. So I don't think the powers in that Apple have anything to do with what's been happening on Punk Hazard up to this point. It's probably a power belonging to some random guy who got killed recently someplace else. oh hell what if it's the Flame-Flame Fruit Ace used to have. If there is a hibernation period before a fruit resurfaces it showing up now could be exactly what they need to fight the Slime monster. Either way it's one heck of a Wild Card to throw into this situation. Who is going to eat it: A Straw Hat, A Marine, a Centaur Pirate, one of the Giant Kids, Smiley? |

I actually just started watching One Piece the other day. I've only managed to bang out 45 episodes so far, though. I'm not looking for any spoilers. Well, just one spoiler. Can someone please tell me that Usopp dies eventually? Hopefully soon? Preferably by being lit on fire?
Obviously Luffy will continue to expand his crew as the series continues. But so far we have a bad ass swordsman, a bad ass thief, a bad ass martial artist, and a cowardly lying pussy who refuses to acknowledge his captain is actually his captain. I get that Usopp is supposed to be the comic relief, but he's not funny. He's just annoying. They say a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. And Usopp being present definitely detracts from the strength of the team as well as my enjoyment of the series. But whatever. I'll continue watching until I'm caught up. |

Usopp not only sticks around, but he gets manly as hell with 6pack abs.
A great deal of Usopps story is him growing into his goal of becoming a brave warrior of the seas. Yes he is a liar and a coward a lot of the time but he also Mans up when the chips are down. He's also pretty brilliant coming up with a lot of great inventions and weapons, Including Nami's Climitac which is a damn cool weapon and fun at parties. plus he is a Bad Ass Sharpshooter Usopp is the character who starts much farther down than the rest of the crew, but he is also a character with a huge amount of potential to grow into. |

Sorry to disappoint you, but Usopp doesn't die. I know many people hated him at the beginning of the series, but eventually he will prove himself worthy of being a main character. Right now I love Usopp (it's hard for me to not love any of the Strawhats). You will see many bad-ass Usopp moments, just stick with the series and I believe you'll change your opinion on him later like many of my friends did. Are you talking about Sanji when you said a martial artist? I don't think he counts as one, but he is bad-ass. |

Conversely, not wearing one doesn't mean you aren't. Anyone with extensive training in a specific unarmed style of fighting is a martial artist. And there are more than a few styles that specialize in kicking and use of the legs. And by the way, I highly doubt I'll ever grow to like Usopp. Hate him less is the best he can hope for. |

Personally I'm a big fan of the Weakling Trio. They may not be able to wipe out whole armies like the Monsters of the group but they hold their own and they bring some much needed smarts and common sense.
Seriously it seems like the stronger you are the less common sense you have in this series. Though Franky is probably my favorite Straw Hat over all |

More things are revealed for One Piece Film Z that could possibly hint that the movie is canon. First the announcement of Aokiji and now Kizaru has been announced for the movie also. I'm so looking forward to it.

Current Arc Spoiler comment:
Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide In regards to Blackbeard: His body is special which is why he is able to absorb the devil fruit powers of another, it seems that he may also be able to pass on devil fruit abilities that he takes to others. How this is done and how his body is different has yet to be shown. In regards to the new apple devil fruit: you'll notice that Smiley is unable to become gas in it's current incarnation. I believe the candy it ate removed the devil fruit power (caused it to die) which put it into the apple and gave Smiley the ability to coat people with a gas-permeable ashlike shell so that they are unable to escape. Oda has said that he will explain the One Piece and that a professor (my guess is Dr. Vega Punk) will explain devil fruits; both of which will happen at some distant future. I don't expect the One Piece to be explained until they get to Raftel as I suspect it's tied together with the Will of D, the void century,& the unnamed past civilization. Getting the one piece will not be the end of the story as I suspect it will take is to the last 3rd part of the story. Given the pacing, I'm guessing another 10 years :-P Oda is a fan of Akira Toriyama and Dragonball inspired him greatly as he likes long tales. Since it was started in 1997, had it's 10 year anniversary in 2007, & is a complete institution in Japan that I would not be surprised if it makes it past 2017. The 15 year anniversary is this month (August 4th 1997 Weekly Shonen Jump) and it hasn't lost any of it's popularity. I don't know if it can go as long as Golgo 13 (currently longest running manga at 40+ years) but 20-30 years shouldn't be a problem. |
