In most cases, the English name isn't something the US company comes up with, but the Japanese company. As others have noted, the official Japanese website for the series lists the name in English as a subtitle. I think in many cases, the Japanese company goes with a title that sounds nice to them, and don't realize what impressions it may give to native speakers of that language. |

LOL I find it so funny that people want to go with the original Japanese title yet it was the Japanese company and not the English one who came up with the original title for English. I am finding so much irony with people saying the Japanese original title is better when the original Japanese title for the show in English is what it is called. The original title is fine.

Geez, some people are just too snobby. Bodacious Space Pirates is a perfectly fine name. There's no need to change it.

When someone says original title, they mean the novel's name "Minisuka Uchyuu Kaizoku~Minisuka Paireetsu (furigana reading)" or the anime's original name, "Mouretsu Uchyuu Kaizoku: Bodacious Space Pirates"?
Using the sub-title as the main title in English works fine, unless you plan on leaving the full title in there. For folks who think that isn't "Japanese enough" please refer to the Japanese release BD covers (1 and 2, cover and spine) AND Satellites official Fan Book from TAF2012... And yes, Bodacious has an older meaning and a new pop culture meaning...BOTH fit. Sorry, I should have ignored the thread but reading it was driving me nuts. |

I started watching this Anime because it was titled Bodacious Space Pirates.
Sure you could call it Moretsu Pirates and I would have probably watched it; but I never bother to research what the title name means therefore a translated title is nice. Only time a translated title is truly bothersome is when it doesn't accurately reflect what the show is. On a sidenote: Adventurous Space Pirates? That makes it sound like a kids show... and we all know ep. 17 would have gone over great if little kids were watching it |

I think the name's good. I got into the show just because I came into the new simulcasts with an open mind. I gave it a shot and then continued watching and loved it. Maybe some buzz influenced me into it, I can't recall.
Anyway's the outward content won't change. Personally I think it's an awesome show whether there are nay sayers to a show of a bunch of school girls who are pirates. I certainly was at first. A name change wouldn't have brought me any closer. Maybe a famous voice actress or creator and lots of buzz. I can't see a name change drawing me in any more as I suppose that is the purpose. I've fallen in love with everything about the series including the name. Let it be, that way people will be surprised when they watch a seemingly cheesy anime that happens to be great. Get in with low expectations and be blown away more. Plus they can feel an exclusivity to an apparently cheesy anime. That's what will be subtracted away with a more "acceptable" name. And the perverts who watch it for the name will get there eyes dilated in more ways than one. Win win. Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide Ah noo! I thought there was no option for the original. |

I shall GB...Sorry not enough of it apparently. My word will be made better....

Honestly, I don't have a problem with the title, and even if you stick to the japanese title...it still means the same thing and people are going to find out eventually and have the same reaction as before.
Plus, as much as I enjoy the show (and consider it vastly underrated), one cannot deny that there are silly moments in the show, so the title does help to reflect that side of it. |

Also, Teenage Galactic Star Pirate Overdrive. |
