Moretsu Pirates if your going to change the name. I tell people when I refer to the series that the name is Bodacious Space Pirates AND Moretsu Pirates because there is always a chance they're going to use Google... Being foreign in this day and age has much less meaning, so translating things for us when we have tools like Google translate and others on our iPhones and Androids makes us take a step backward IMO...
We're much closer as a global community due to the widespread use and availability of the Internet coupled with near-real-time translation. Hell, you can even translate spoken Japanese directly from your Android phone using voice recognition and google translate! |

Moretsu Pirates, why change a good thing?
Although from what I have read "moretsu" means "miniskirt" in Japanese I think "Moretsu" is better suited as a title than the English version "miniskirt." Bodacious, while the actual definition fits well with the series ("excellent, admirable, or attractive") it just reminds me of the stereotypical airhead surfer dude. That image doesn't do the series justice at all. |

Cannot wait to see someone cosplay Moka in her Capu2 ED costume :P

Not sure who came up with Bodacious.... -_- LostGamer wrote: Moretsu Pirates, why change a good thing? That image doesn't do the series justice at all. Actually, the makers of the anime changed the title from Mini-Skirt Space Pirates (Miniskirt Uchuu Kaizoku, ミニスカ宇宙海賊 (ミニスカパイレーツ)) to Moretsu Pirates (Moretsu Uchuu Kaizoku, モーレツ宇宙海賊) The translation of the word Moretsu is a bit hard, as it doesn't really have a direct translation. In general, it means something akin to "Excellent" or "Hard working" or "Dedicated" or "Gung-ho!", however, evidently there were some TV ads back in the 1970's where men were using the term as a declaration of admiration for women wearing miniskirts, as in [wolf-whistle] MO-RE-TSU!!!!! It sounds like it really translates to Bodacious, doesn't it! So why the choice of Moretsu over the original Mini-Skirt in the light novel title? Perhaps the production committee didn't want to give the impression that the show was going to be all about pantyshots and eechii, so they switched it. The word they chose has multiple meanings (just like Bodacious, which can mean "bold and audacious" or "hot, good looking, well endowed, etc...") which gives a less eechii image than Mini-skirt, but at the same time, brings up cultural imagery that is associated with miniskirts... Sounds like pretty sophisticated marketing to me! Not to mention, as I and others have before, that the original artwork n the Japanese site has the word Bodacious in the graphic for the show! It isn't an American companies re-naming folks! It is what the Japanese production committee named their show! Why do people want to make it different? |

Not gonna lie, the only reason I even started watching the show was because "Bodacious Space Pirates" caught my eye and I thought it was awesome.

The original title is what attracted me to the show. The sense of humor in the title was immediately noticeable and likable. Frankly, it fits the sense of humor in the show perfectly, It also fits the characters perfectly, and you / they / whomever has decided on this poll is probably listening to the very vocal minority.
I love the title as it is. |

Given the original title (as in the light novel's), I'd name it "The Miniskirt Pirate", since that is how Marika looks in her pirate uniform.

I prefer Moretsu Pirates myself, but I don't really mind Bodacious Space Pirates either.

Personally i think that Moretsu Pirates is good but that is me, i am a huge fan of Anime and really like it when stuff does not get alienated by my country. Frankly in my opinion i think that ether Moretsu Pirates or the Adventures of the Bentenmaru would be perfect for this series i don't expect to be right but i can say i have seen a lot of stuff that gets passed by people cause the name sounds lame, Bleach for example is passed over by a ton of people cause the name seems to suggest that its about something dumb, i am still curbing my ability to not judge things by the cover but i got a long way to go and so does every other human out their, THEPOORFOOL OUT!!!!

Since I've just cast the 666th vote for Moretsu Pirates - let me just be annoying and claim that it's actually Mouretsu - not Moretsu :p

I was, in fact, wary of watching because of the title. It made it seem like some sort of fanservice-fest.

Congratulations, you have won an internet.

I agree with Magical Girl. ^^
I think the original Japanese name should have stayed with it. And I still haven't watched it. |

Nihon no ongaku wa suki na no desu ka. I do. :D

The post should have first given an English translation for the Japanese word "Moretsu". I mean, what does that mean? Does Moretsu get translated as "Bodacious"?
