Mouretsu means "fierce" or "furious" and is clearly mean here as a joke.
The novel series is Miniskirt Space Pirates, so in that way Bodacious is a nod back to the pointless service of the Novel titles.
If you had asked me I might have suggestion "Ferocious Space Pirates" which would have been in keeping with the parody aspect of the anime series, which does not include the pointless service of the novel series.

Because the word bodacious is used as an adjective by a fast food BBQ franchise I saw in East Texas all I remember about this show is "damn, this ain't BBQ and them purty drawn painted wimmen don't make my G.I. tract yearn for the succulent beef brisket aglow with shimmering sauce about to slam down my gullet". Somehow the English descriptor for this anime series gets lost in my mind account sustenance over substance (or lack thereof).
I've gotten as far as ep 12 so with that limited knowledge base how 'bout: Smart Tarts with Charts ?

Yeah, the "Bodacious" has always been a turnoff for me. To my credit, I did see the first ep, but with a name like that, I just couldn't take it seriously. It makes it sounds like a hentai series.
I liked someone's suggestion of Bold Space Pirates. That sounds cool. But otherwise I say go with the original Moretsu Pirates. It's less cluttered, and doesn't sound so pervy and stupid. Well, maybe the series is (I haven't watched it, so I can't say). If it IS, keep the current name, and it can keep me away.

Honestly, MINI SKIRT PIRATE ADVENTURE PALOOZA, WITH LAZORS would probably interest the greatest number of people.
And yes, I skipped this anime, probably half because of the name and half because I noticed their was more than one female character and drew my own conclusions. Now I must watch Mini Skirt Pirate Adventure Palooza With Lazors.

I didn't think Bodacious was a real English word. Just bad American slang.
But if they have letters of marque aren't they Privateers rather than Pirates as well?
Perhaps it should be Moretsu Privateers!
