I think Shiki is the most horrifying and disturbing anime ever made, especially the last 5 or so episodes. The last couple of episodes and the deleted but later released episodes 20.5 and 21.5 were so disturbing, I found myself even a little sickened by how brutal and disturbing they were.

Anyone else see this anime? I will probably buy it on Blu-ray when Funimation releases it in a few weeks. In the meantime, most of it is on Hulu.

Anyone know if Funimation will be releasing those two missing episodes with their release?

There is a also profound and dark dialog sequence in episode 4, that really struck me.

It's not the most disturbing anime I've seen, but I'd say it is a good one for horror. In particular, I liked it's realistic approach to a vampire takeover, especially how the doctor struggled to find a rational explanation for what was going on. Characterization is the best part of this show, imo. There were lots of distinctive characters, and they each handled the situation in different ways. I think the most interesting thing was there were no good guys: the vampires and the villagers both resorted to atrocities to survive.

It's certainly a show that sticks in your head long after you've finished watching it. I recommend it and think it's one of the better shows from 2010.

I agree with @deadpanditto. It was a great horror series, but I didn't feel it was as disturbing as some others I've seen. I always thought Elfen Lied was pretty gruesome because of the graphic violence shown and the mental trauma suffered by the characters. School Days in another disturbing series, at least in my opinion.

I've seen school days, elfin lied and shiki and I'd have to say that none of them were all that disturbing, I mean I hated what certain characters did, but those characters tell us more about ourselves in that not everyone would become a hero.

I finished this yesterday and thought it was alright. It wouldn't be what I call "most disturbing anime I've ever seen" but rather something unique that not other vampire anime/tv drama have followed recently. In other words, it doesn't fall into the typical romance cliche.

Also, agreed with deadpanditto in that it shows a more realistic way of what vampires are. I might check out the bonus DVD episodes soon. One thing I do want to mention is the superior soundtrack of this series, something I'll remember for awhile.

That's very true. A lot of people find "Silence of the Lambs" disturbing for the similar reasons: that there are some truly horrible people out there and we can't tell who they are, just like how Lecter disappears into the crowd at the end of the movie.

Yes, FUNimation has included 20.5 and 21.5 on part 2 of the set. I got the first part in the mail two days ago and just finished watching it. I'm receiving part 2 on Monday and I can't wait to finish watching it! Watching it online doesn't do the show justice, its awesome on blu-ray. Every time I pre-order shows from FUNimation on rightstuf.com, I almost always get it weeks before the street release date so if you want it bad enough, pre-order it and you will probably get it early.

Second part of Barefoot Gen: I thought the animators did a decent job illustrating what a few moments of luck and timing while performing a voluntary movement (bending down to retrieve something) during the initiation of an atomic blast can do to ruin the rest of Life as you remembered it. This is not an anime you would want to share with a 4 or 5 year old child. I was more affected watching this footage than any present day vampire, witchcraft, serial killer release that has chosen animation as a vehicle to tell a good story.

Episode 12 saved School Days. I haven't forgotten that show since I first encountered it 2 years ago. Wish that game with English translations would get released soon.

I do want it pretty bad, but have two airline tickets to Japan and 11 days worth the hotels on my CC already. Plus, still need to get a JR pass. That bill is going to be

I didn't find Shiki to be that disturbing unless you count the scene where Megumi was under the bed and we hear her bone cracking or whatever that was.

The most disturbing part about the shower, for me at least, was all the discussions debating over who was right or wrong. I found that both Shiki and humans were wrong in some of their approaches [to survive] but the show definitely brought out a realistic approach of a vampire takeover. In the end, like the doctor said, both groups lost.

All I can say is that both groups lost their humanity. Yes, I do believe that some of the Shiki retained their humanity even after their change.

Watch some Bible Black, my friend. That'll make you forget Shiki really quickly.
