Bible Black is hentai, so I think thats in a class of disturbing greatly removed from general horror like Shiki. :P

I really really liked Shiki a lot. The characters werent one-dimensional like in certain other sparkly vampire movies. Every one of them had some sort of a story and I felt sorry for the ones that I noted as "favourites."

The corruption of the priest as the show progressed was really effing awesome too. I guess theres a season two that continues on with the priest and the loli, but I havent seen it. Im also a little leary that its not going to be as awesome as the first season.

Perhaps that's the manga? I haven't heard anything about a second season.

As far as I know, there won't be a second season. The manga adapted the light novel, and the anime adapted the manga. From what little bits I remember of the manga , the ending is pretty much the same - Seishun (monk dude) and Sunako survive and escape whilst all the other Shikis are killed off. The major differences is the deaths of characters. Yoshi (one of the Jinrous) dies by suiciding - she blew herself up to kill some humans. Natsuno's and Tatsumi's deaths were pretty much the same except there were a few alterations.

I wouldn't say the monk was corrupted at the end.

I loved Higurashi too. Maybe it's because Shiki stuck a nerve with how human society can easy devolve can commit unspeakable atrocities.

You dont think the monk was corrupted? How so? He went from complete disgust about the vampires to helping the loli escape certain death. I would call that corruption.

Maybe there was two or three episodes that Hulu didnt put up at the end... I know there was at least one that wasnt up. I just couldnt find a downloadable copy.

I think you're talking about episodes 20.5 and 21.5 which were included on the DVD/BDs. They happen between the stories and aren't necessary to watch. However, you should still watch them - you'll see how ugly some of the humans can be.

I am curious, where they released later because it was felt that they were too violent for TV? I think those two episodes were the most disturbing. Think about it this way, most series are 24 episodes, not 22. Plus, they fit in perfectly.

The scene where she strokes her son's hair... And the one with Nao was pretty heartbreaking.

I don't think he was corrupted, but suffered from a moral crisis. I think he was never comfortable with death or killing, no matter who or why.

He could have ended the whole horrific shebang close to the end instead of letting so many innocents die (and yes a lot of actual innocent folk died). But he chose to let a monster live to perhaps start up another "family" of vampires and repeat the whole cycle again. In the end, the monk became just as bad as the villagers and the vampires themselves. Silence is the same as complicity.

Maybe your definition of corruption is different though.
