I've got an idea.

First, let me start with a question: how many of you use Twitter? Not asking for usernames, just a simple yes/no.

Second: how many of you would use a twitter-style social networking service that is for anime discovery, incredibly streamlined, and wrapped around user experience?

I've been thinking for a while about creating a social-networking service where anime lovers can go, sign up, and indirectly talk about anime. Of course, it would've wrapped around the same basic idea of Twitter; you post "status" style messages on your "wall", and others can "tag along" to what you post, drop in on a tagged discussion, and if I ever got licensing and such, be able to watch anime in groups, and carry a discussion during the anime.

Along with that, there'd be a primary account, one which everyone would "tag along" (if they chose to) that would give out news and updates on anime/manga.

Let me give a few examples on how some of this stuff would work:

Status- "Wow! Just finished Upotte, I hope a second season comes!"

Reply from another user- "Agreed. Check out the info about the planned OVA *tag to status made my primary account with details*"

The idea is to get rid of multiple main topics when you go to the site, and just have your account, along with people you can follow.

Another example, detailing anime group viewing, and how you could subscribe/discover new anime:

*types name of anime in universal search bar, finds Bleach, clicks "Tag Along"*

Status - "Anyone wanna watch some Bleach with me? I'm checking out the new episode. *tagged name of episode about to view*"

Reply from another user: "Yeah, I'll be in the Lounge in 5 minutes."

Another user who Tags Along with one of the users: "Awesome! Hopefully it's not another filler episode."

While the users are viewing that anime, which ever anime they follow, they'll have a personal recommendation of different anime profiles they may like. Also, they'd have a bar dedicated to the side where they could discuss the anime.

It's sort of hard top lay out on a forum, without showing some of the mock-ups I've prepared. Really, what this site is all about is having an incredibly personal anime-geared social network, for those who don't want to skim forums. I may also make this an app exclusive for iOS and Android.

So, what do you guys think? Any input?

Crunchytwitter. lol.

Not sure how much success you'd have with it, but I'd most likely use it too (without forsaking my usual anime haunts).

Not really. It's one big "bar". As in, you will never leave the home screen. You could even have multiple videos going at the same time, on one tab, although that would be stupid.

There's no real status function on CR (that's worth even using). Nor is the CR experience really streamlined. Not bashing, just saying its not unified. Along with an easy to use following-style functionality where you'll get constant updates in real time on your "feed". Twitter + Crunchyroll = this service.

Also, CR is not really a social networking site.

First off, I don't Twitter.

Secondly, I'm pretty sure people who really want to do this are having a fine time using Crunchyroll, Facebook groups, and such. Your idea doesn't seem to do anything new, so far as I can tell. Then again, I don't Twitter, so I probably don't really understand the idea.

However, if you designed an anime recommendation algorithm similar to the one used by Netflix to recommend pretty much anything from their library (we provide ratings, it mines our datasets for similar rating profiles and attempts to predict our ratings for series we haven't yet seen, and spits out recommendations) and made this part of your experience... I'd jump on it in a heartbeat. (Crunchyroll should really attempt something like this.) Nobody has done it yet, so far as I've been able to find..

I really appreciate the feedback. I agree that this proooobably wouldn't go very far at all, which has made me want to focus on this being an app. There's virtually NOTHING anime related on the app store for U.S. users, and it hurts. I use twitter very often, for news and such.

But really, in the end, this is a social network completely focused on anime, the personal experience for the user, and interacting with friends all in a streamlined, easy to use, no tutorial needed experience.

(I'll definitely have to look up that algorithm [which I bet may be patented] and try to get someone who's a math genius in my programming class to work one up for me).

Once again, thanks for the input.

You're welcome! :DD But now that it ended this quickly, I wonder if I should report it for being a sort of personal thread...

Yeah, I'd go ahead and do that. If I could delete it, I would. Is that the onlyway to get stuff off here?
