So heres a question for y'all :

Today I was talking to a girl I really like during break in classes. We joke around a lot, so I didnt get offended by it. But we were commenting on one of the teachers shoe styles (four inch heels with a zebra stripe pattern). She was wearing them with a pair of skinny jeans.

I said to her (my friend), that just looks weird to me. And they did... to me. She thought they were cute. I think they would look great with a skirt, or a pair of dressy pants. But she countered with you're a guy you dont know what youre talking about.

And that just pushed my troll-button so I just kept popping out comments that I knew would get her to respond the way I wanted her too. *smug look*

Anyway... we went back to class poking fun at each other, my last comment went something like:

"Guys dont know what they are talking about, thats why girls always ask their boyfriends if they look hot."

Her: "I wouldnt wear those shoes to impress a guy, I'd wear them because I like them."

So... my question to you folk is:

Do guys know what they are talking about when it comes to girls fashion? As in, do you think a guy could go to a store and pick out a dress (or otherwise) and have it look good on the girl, or are guys just completely inept when it comes to clothing?

In a perfect world a guy could pick out what he knows he would like to see his girlfriend in. Common sense really if you think about it like that but most guys get caught up in the whole "I'm a guy what do I know about fashion?" when they know what she would look good in and just don't want to say it. (I'm guessing to seem more manly)

Guys are attracted to the overall appearance, so I think that fashion really matters, but it has to flatter the girl. But then again, they just want to see you naked, it doesn't matter.

Just don't make me pick the size. I can barely get my own shoes right.

Hell, I'd hate shopping with those girls who use that line.

The zebra stripe heels do sound like they'd go with those skinny jeans. Casual chic with a hint of animal print, I like. Also very in right now. (Of course I haven't seen the entire outfit so I'm just sayin)

Some guys know what they're talking about, others do not. It depends on how much the dudes are into and know about fashion. Looking good is all about taste and style.

Also, some people have a natural eye for it. Doesn't matter what gender they are.

Picking size can be dangerous for a whole buttload of other reasons.

Not all guys have bad fashion sense just like not all girls have good fashion sense. It is just whether one has learned the finer points of it or have a natural talent or not. Also not everyone has the same opinion on what is fashionable and what isn't so it can be tricky either way.

I think that disagreements such as the one you had with your friend are more due to having a different sense of style rather than one of you lacking fashion sense. I would, for example, prefer skinny jeans with high heels instead of a skirt and heels. It's not that I don't recognize that with the right person wearing it, the skirt might look better. I just personally despise wearing skirts. And, I'd choose skinny jeans over a dress any day simply because they're a personal favorite.

Your fashion sense is riddled with personal bias.

People have their own opinion so something that u think looks really good might look horrible to someone else. Its all about preference but i dont think its something to get work up over.

As I said, I wasnt worked up over or offended, We go on like this quite a bit. Just teasing each other. I just posted it on here because I wanted to know what other people think of it. Ya know, curiosity. ;)

And you guys are right, its all personal taste. As an artist, I believe I have pretty good fashion sense, I can stick colours together and think up a nice outfit with little trouble. My friend might disagree about if she thinks something is sexy, but thats just human nature. Were not clones, so were not going to agree on stuff.

I too am an artist and I think I have an eye for what looks good on both genders and know what colors compliment. I think it really depends on the person. Some guys and some girls don't have a thing for fashion and others have an interest in it, at one level or another. I'm not sure what counts as having no taste in fashion, since fashion is culture based and subjective though. Either way, I still think there are guys who can and do have an eye for fashion. It just depends on the individual.

What some people call fashion, others might think looks awkward. Like others have said it's all personal taste. I'm not very "fashionable", seeing as I love to wear my zebra print skinny jeans and hoodies with patches I sew onto them whatnot. I love them, but I've been told by others they look silly.

Also, I knew a guy once who thought side pony tails (like 80's style) was totally bangin hot.. I don't think I'd take his word for it though. Then again, I dress like I need a helmet. Maybe taking guy friends (or a boyfriend) or people with similar taste to go shopping would be fun though. I wouldn't wanna wear something that I wasn't comfortable with just cause it's in style or considered fashionable.

A guy friend that want's go to clothes shopping though? By the Nine, where is he?

I love legs, so I find it pretty attractive when taller girls wear pantyhose, thigh socks, stockings, leggings, etc.

Ive gone shopping with my bestfriend (a girl) several times. Its actually quite a bit of fun... but then I grew up around nearly all girls so I guess Im an oddball anyway. lol

If I was going clothes shopping with a girl and I was going to pick out stuff for her, Id want her to like it, so I would want to know what sort of stuff she likes to wear. No sense picking of a short plaid skirt and a tank top if shes a jeans and hoodie type girl.
