Actually, I learned quite alot from watching anime. I'm able to understand and talk basic japanese, but I can't read it. Kinda like a 5 year old kid I guess...

I know a lot, but not from anime- but from studying. I watch Majisuka Gakuen, it's beast. I can speak sentences, read some Hirigana, and some Kanji.

I don't consider myself even close to being able to speak a full sentence in Japanese.

Although I've only been an anime viewer for three years. Not as long as many other anime viewers.

Sounds like you have a language problem. It's entirely possible to learn a language simply by hearing it repeatedly it's called total immersion learning, Google in fact has a new app targeted at doing just that, Rosetta Stone works on the same principal.

As for myself I've learned about 50-100 words from watching Anime for the last 18 years or so. I still have trouble with the reversed grammar and certain connective words like "I', "is", "and" things like that but I know a great many specific words to the point I recognize when translators are taking liberties with their translations to make things sound more interesting or more american.

An adult who has watched anime for 18 years. That's what I like to see, rather than bullshitting young adults or teenagers saying that they've picked it up by watching their favourite series.

I know enough to greet someone and to introduce myself to them. Of course I know few other word just from watching anime and reading manga cause it said over and over again. I can also say my numbers even thought I keep missing 8.
