Now, in my opinion, parodies should be made to a certain extent.
I like some of the movie and song parodies people make and it seems it's better than what actually came out! But of course, there are people who have to ruine it for everbody. But forget those people, let's enjoy our exelate parodies. I love some of the Naruto parodies that come on Youtube and some of the other anime and cartoon parodies.

Some parodies aren't even funny. I like some parodies, but they could use some work.

Parodies for laughs
after I've watched the original for plot and character

they both have their goods so fairly even in my eyes

I don't think a parody can ever be better than the original, because a parody simply works with the source material. So if anything, you would say a parody is better if it were lampooning something really bad or obscure. But that doesn't happen because most, if not all parodies, are made because something has been deemed culturally significant enough to get a parody.

There's the rare parody that is better then the original.

How can this be? Shouldn't it be impossible without the source material?

It's possible if the parody is so well made, it can still be funny and/or enjoyable without having to refer to the source material. When a parody is that good it can break it's pop culture constraints, it's reached a new level. Thus if you watch the source material later and find it's not your cup of tea - the parody has officially trumped the source material. That's assuming you figure out it's a parody. Some of the best made ones are so subtle, that you sometimes don't know what it's a parody of or if it's a parody at all. Until you find out later through comments online, a news article, a blog post, friend - or whatever.

Still, there's more parodies out there for any single show, comic, or song. And only some of them people will find enjoyable. Let alone hit the point where they're better then the source.

Ultimately, it shouldn't really matter. If your familiar with the source material, your more likely to enjoy a good parody. But it's unlikely the parody will beat the original for most people.

they have their moments but some of them are just horrid and the person that thought it up should be put in front of a firing line.

It depends on how terrible the original was.

Sometimes yes. Like I like Galaxy Quest WAAAAY more than any single episode of any series entry for Star Trek.

I like the Yu-Gi-Oh abridged series more than I like the original. Why is the poll seemingly discussing one parody?
