Deadman Wonderland premiered last night on Toonami and I was wondering what were your opinions of the dub? I couldn't watch it last night so I'm curious what you guys thought of it. I want to start this anime next so I wanna know whether to watch it on Toonami or just watch the subbed version.

Off totally off topic but...
Funimation has the rights to it, right? Do they also have a stream up or are you going to watch it on some fansub site if you do decide to watch it subbed?

If you never seen it before and you can wait week to week you can go for dub.
If you just want to knock it off your list in a week go for subs - which are available on hulu

On dub the gore is mostly uncensored but language is
On the subs they used the Japanese broadcast where the gore IS censored.

It's not a bad dub actually

Good except for Ganta's voice. Greg Ayres is talented but not the best option.

The dub is pretty good, actually. I was surprised I just didn't like how they translated Shiro's woodpecker song... it was really weird

Well, at least Ganta actually sounds like a pre-teen, yet I still don't care for his voice. Shiro's was perfectly fine, though.

Well,Ganta is a middle school level kid right? So a voice that lack balls would be ideal. But the screaming might be a problem (thank god I'm not using headphones).
The dub is fairly well.Even though there is only one episode out. This was a smart idea to get high sales on the DVD release.

Overall I think it was a solid dub. I will also have to agree on Greg Ayres not being the best choice for Ganta. The guy is talented but in my opinion his voice does not fit.

I also had a hard time getting used to him as Rygart Arrow in Broken Blade. His voice just came off as too whiny and grating.

Frankly, I can't stand Greg Ayres voice.

Even having Johnny back for the ten trillionth time would have worked out better. What surprises me is how Johnny can adjust his voice for just about any role, considering Johnny doesn't vary the voices between roles all that much, his voice for Renton would have fit Ganta better. For a boy pre-adolescence Johnny could have still nailed it better than Greg Ayres making him sounding like an extremely young and whiny child.

I'm a Greg Ayres fan myself. While I'll admit he doesn't have as much range as some voice actors, the characters he does are well executed. I haven't seen the sub, but the English dub seems good based off the first episode.

I am gonna put this out there. When I watched it subbed last year there was no performance that totally blew me away. So when I read people say the subs are waaaaay better after only one episode I honestly don't see it.

Also who ever did English Shinji from Eva may have been able to pull off a good Ganta
Also, also I remember watching it subbed thinking Ganta sounds like Toshiro from Bleach and their personalities are polar opposite it threw me off.
