I am gonna put this out there. When I watched it subbed last year there was no performance that totally blew me away. So when I read people say the subs are waaaaay better after only one episode I honestly don't see it.

Also who ever did English Shinji from Eva may have been able to pull off a good Ganta
Also, also I remember watching it subbed thinking Ganta sounds like Toshiro from Bleach and their personalities are polar opposite it threw me off.

Well,Ganta & Toshiro are voiced by the same actress in Japanese, who also did Ed in FMA.

From what little I saw onf DMWL, the VA for the protagonist didnt make me want to murder him for making my ears bleed and causing nightmares of Leave it to Beaver (Eureka 7 dub). lol

Deadman Wonderland premiered last night on Toonami and I was wondering what were your opinions of the dub? I couldn't watch it last night so I'm curious what you guys thought of it. I want to start this anime next so I wanna know whether to watch it on Toonami or just watch the subbed version.

I wouldn't recommend watching either since it really doesn't have any ending. It is like if you were watching Naruto Shippuden and it randomly ended now before anything major happened. Don't disappoint yourself.

Something I posted on facebook the night it came out

"haven't seen deadman wonderland before but the main characters voice dub doesn't seem to fit .... Never liked that VA voice though so I could be wrong. Seems like the supporting cast sounds a lot better Still this is a bold choice for Toonami so I am pretty happy"

Since I haven't seen the subs (not going to till after it finishes airing on TOONAMI ) I really can not compare but that VA I have never really liked. Even in Baccano I found it a little off putting. He can scream like a beast though so I give him credit for that.

The censored language didn't bother me that much.

Off totally off topic but...
Funimation has the rights to it, right? Do they also have a stream up or are you going to watch it on some fansub site if you do decide to watch it subbed?

Yes, Funimation has the subbed version available for streaming on their website:
http://www.funimation.com/deadman-wonderland/episodes

This should also be the uncensored (DVD) version, as unlike CR, Funimation did not acquire it as a simulcast.

I agree with everyone saying Ganta's voice is annoying. I hated his voice.

Oh well... I'm not from the USA but I got curious and searched for the ep, and it was somehow good... but as an otaku I will always say that the japanese dub is waaayyy better than anything else...

The dub is pretty good, actually. I was surprised I just didn't like how they translated Shiro's woodpecker song... it was really weird

When I heard the song it sounded so familiar. I couldn't figure out why until now. It sounds like the same song Simca sang in Air Gear. I guess it is because they are voiced by the same voice actor.

My favorite voice was Makina. Fit her amazingly well.

As for Ganta, I think his voice fits him pretty nicely even though it sounds annoying.

Good except for Ganta's voice. Greg Ayres is talented but not the best option.

I appreciate the mostly-uncensored gore. I have no reference point, as I used the dub to get into the show and see what all the fuss [and the Shiro costume in Lollipop Chainsaw costume] is about. I liked the dub a LOT, save for, oh surprise surprise, Greg Ayres. While I've really liked him in other roles, and think his delivery [particularly the screams!] was good and natural....The whiny, nasally edge to his voice can be grating, and I just think there could've been better casting options available. All in all, not a deal-breaker, but it gave me pause. XD

Makina was played by Colleen Clinkenbeard, they always assign her the confident, domineering, no nonsense female roles. Which always works.

as a general rule, i almost never watch dubbed anime. the exceptions were all when i first started watching anime (cowboy bebop, inuyasha, big O, basically the stuff on adult swim) occasionally ill watch something dubbed on netflix if the voice acting isn't too horrible. but it seems like most shows just get dubbed over to make a quick buck and not enough thought goes into the voice actors and the ones they pick don't really seem to act out, vocally, whats going on. Ive seen dubs where the character is basically being tortured and there faces is twisted in pain but the voice acting just doesn't follow it.

Colleen Clinkenbeard never fails to deliver, and I agree with Ganta's dubbing voice. He did a great acting job, but the voice itself doesn't tune in with me really well, but we'll see as the show progresses, some might actually get to like it.
But I was slightly disappointed since my first choice for Ganta's voice was Spike Spencer, and his voice fits with Ganta better than Greg Ayres.
