you're breathing in chemicals every second of your life

Well, duh, except with smoking it's intentional.

I started smoking at the age of 11 with my best friend at the time and before I knew it became natural to me and now almost 10 years later its hard to imagine me without smoking I have been told I should quit but to be honest I enjoy smoking and don't have a reason big enough to try its like cigarettes are just a part of me now (its hard to explain to someone who does not smoke) but until you are reminded about smoking you don't give it much thought (it became as natural as walking)

Well duh, you're addicted! But, do you never suffer from craving? A lot of smokers claim that smoke calms them, but craving actually makes them more nervous than normal, and that's what the smoke calms. Smoke also suppresses your smell and taste experience (ask some ex-smokers).

Well yeah I know it dulls taste and smell I know it all too well (And as for craving I just grab a cig without thinking about it) HOWEVER when I have not had one in a while it does consume my thoughts a bit its like I start thinking about them and then I get irritated without one

To make this more on-topic, I hate it when mangaka (usually smokers themselves) create smoking characters perpetrating their total disregard for other people who have to swallow their second-hand smoke, and this makes it into the anime, too.

For example, the smokers at NASA in Uchuu Kyoudai/Space Brothers (who unrealistically do so in closed rooms at NASA without anyone complaining); or for a shoujo example, the main characters smoking below a don't-smoke sign in Nana. Or in shounen, there is Asuma Sarutobi in Naruto or Eikichi Onizuka in GTO, who as teachers pollute the lungs of their own students.

I have noticed that in Anime smoking characters are portrayed as carefree people and I have noticed that they like to make the school nurses smoke in quite a few Anime

Hell no.
I find it pretty disgusting and when when people smoke indoors it's even worse. Forcing all others breath that shit in is pretty horrible. Along with making your clothes smell like that? Pisses me off.
I wont date someone who smokes.

And for those that don't, what are your opinions on smoking?

Above all else, it stinks. Your clothes will stink for up to days. A smoker or a non-smoker constantly exposed to smoke from relatives or friends will not notice that, but those like me who're normally spared will. Surprisingly, ex-smokers, too: a guy I know who was a chain-smoker into his forties and quit after a stern doctor's warning told me about his surprise to notice the lasting smell in clothes once his sense of smell came back. The stench was also a reason I avoided restaurants until the smoking bans came: all I could smell and taste was the tobacco. Worse, for some people the stench of smoke does the job of suppressing the equally unpleasant smell of body odour, thus they save the trouble of washing themselves, leaving those around them the choice between two unpleasant odours...

Still ahead of my concern for my own health is that the addiction turns a lot of smokers into ignorant and arrogant assholes. People who never ask for anyone's permission to light up in their presence, who even react violently when asked to put it out at a place where it's clearly banned, who can't put out and dispose of stubs properly but will litter it everywhere, yet these same people have the gall to constantly complain of persecution.

Regarding health, cancer is one thing, but coughing is more widespread, and some smokers are in a curious denial about this unpleasantness ("Oh, I smoke because I enjoy it! *cough* *cough*"). I had the "pleasure" of listening to some smoker friends when waking up, I really don't want that every morning for myself.
