I was wondering if anyone could recommend me any recent (within the last 5-6 years) anime that is set around college or has character that occasionally deals with college?

I've already been suggested:
> Honey and Clover
> Itazura no Kiss
> Genshiken
> Eden of the East
> Love Hina
> Ah! My Goddess

I don't mind senior-high school type animes, but I have Sket-Dan to fulfill that type, so I'm more interesting in a more mature setting. It's hard to relate with high school characters when it's been a few years since you've been in high-school, regardless of how hilarious the high jinx that ensue.

It's a little aggravating to know that Japanese animation studios prefer to take on high-school setting, but I suppose that's where they get a majority of their marketing from, so thusly their target audience...

"Welcome to the NHK" is an excellent series that deals with a reclusive college drop-out trying to reintroduce himself into society, so it technically counts. Also, "Listen to Me Girls, I'm Your Father" is another great series about a college student trying to raise his late sister's children.

Yes, Welcome to the N.H.K. is very good. It's one of the very few anime that I can truly relate to. It's so easy to relate to because all the troubles of each character is so real. I'm currently in college and I can say, it pretty much resembles the story of my life right now. Which is kinda depressing.

Harder than relating to characters from another country?

I don't find it that difficult to relate to characters that are in high school, since I did attend high school, while I have never even visited Japan (or been outside the United States, for that matter).

What about Ouran High School Host Club? Does it count as an anime about college?

As others have said, "Welcome to the NHK" is a great show.

One that I really liked, but doesn't seemed to get mentioned much is "The Tatami Galaxy." It's about a college student who dreams of having the perfect college experience. At the end of an episode when he feels like college didn't turn out the way he wanted, he wishes that he had done things differently (joined different clubs/made different friends). The whole series jumps between alternate lives of the main character and the clubs he would of joined. It all wraps up into a very solid concept that made me reflect on my school life. I recommend the series to all young adults.

Tatami Galaxy is an interesting watch, yet hard to understand for mainstream viewers to watch until a decent dub is made. Here's to hoping for a license.

Let me rephrase then: More difficult to relate to. I attended a majority of my schooling back in the Philippines, so some cultural nuances can be vaguely relatable.

That's good you can relate still with high school settings. Just personally, in the course of watching so many animes now, the school setting saturated my experience and I'd like something that hits closer to home.

IIRC, the characters are high-school age. So though it does occur in an academy, they aren't exactly what I was looking for. Plus I've rewatched the series too many times to count now, :>. But thanks for suggesting.

@ Everyone else!:

Thanks for all your suggestions! I came across Tatami Galaxy before, so it's definitely on the to-watch list. Papa no Iu Koto wo Kikinasai is a little cutesy for my taste, but I'll take the anime into consideration too!

I haven't heard of Welcome to NHK, but I'll definitely give it a look up.

Thank you for your suggestions everybody! I appreciate it a lot.

Ya, the narrator does talk like a million words per minute. Personally, other than Cowboy Bebop, I've never been able to stand dubbing. Read fast or pause a lot!
