I've been lurking the music forums for a while and it doesn't seem like there's anything like this so I figured I'd start one. Basically between reading things like how people "only like Asian bands" or "there's no good American band" I'm going to prove you wrong, not really. I figure instead though why don't we share some bands people probably aren't familiar with, I think the only real major requirement is the band not be on a major mainstream label with large exposure(things you wouldn't hear on the radio)

I'll be posting a link to a song of each band that I really like and hopefully you do too. First round will be the emo edition.

I Kill Giants

This band is one of my favorite new bands of the past two years. Very mathy emo jams with some the catchiest guitar hooks around. This one probably the most accessible one of the bunch in my first post, the most "pop" sense if you would. They have three releases including a brand new ep with some avatar: the last airbender covers all on bandcamp.

Duck, Little Brother, Duck

Portland based, these guys have recently signed with Topshelf Records. For anyone into this stuff, they've pretty much got it down to a teeth. The interplay between all the musicians is something else and their ability to build on ideas and explode with all this energy is unreal. Some say the amount of creativity in post rock makes it the new jazz for the ages, I don't know if that's true but it's some fresh air for sure.

Algernon Cadwallader

This band is one of my favorites ever, but like I understand if you don't like them at all. The vocals are very, they sound like they're coming from a whiny white kid or Cap N Jazz ripoffs. It's true, the vocals in this are very similar to the previously mentioned group but that's about it. The band's got the whole emotional, make me feel alive and dead thing for them. It took me a bit to get use to the vocals but now I can really appreciate it for what they are.

It seems a lot of their songs have been taken off youtube and they recently broke up. If you didn't like Algernon's vocals you probably shouldn't even bother with this band. But if you've ever been heartbroken over someone or just a love stricken, this band will probably relate to you. Their first EP is filled with gems of lines like "what do you do with those boys I see you with? Or better yet, what would I do if you came back?" from that song I posted or "I will explode if I don't kiss you now" off Methuselah Rookie Card. Very emo.

Anywho I figured four bands is a good start, please add your more obscure bands into this list and if there's any interest in these bands feel free to message me to know more and let me know if you would like more. I'm thinking a more jammy "indie"(I use this term loosely cause it can mean anything) punk stuff or some real SF bay area hip hop.
