Can men and women be long-term friends? I would have to answer "yes" as I've personally been close friends with a guy for over 20yrs (gawd, does that age me!). As to the whole, one or both of us are/were attracted to one another at some point is totally moot. Especially if no one acts on it. He's happily married and his wife knows that we are best buds and there is absolutely no issues. You just have to be mature enough to know where you stand in all relationships.

Of course they can. I have 2 really close girls that I am friends with and I am not physically attracted to either of them.

Can men and women be friends? Sure, but can they be long term friends? That's a better question.

I think this answer brings about a great topic. It depends on the length of the friendship. Yes, men and women can be friends....but I think the longer the friendship lasts the more likely it is that it will develop into something else.

Yes, I have many female friends and some of them are my childhood friends. We all treat each other like sisters and brothers. However, it really depends on women because the only problem is a few of them are trying too hard to ignore me if I refuse to make a first move.

I don't have female friends as it always turns into a relationship or sex on the side. I have plenty of Ex's though that call once in awhile for advice or consolation. It's entirely possible, my sisters and I are friends. I think it's much more common for a guy to be friend-zoned. That isn't a friendship... that's just a female with a neutered pet chasing at her heels.

Yes, men and women can be friends if they really want it, and can handle it.
One of my best friends is a male, and although it did start off as him having a crush on me, we did grow to be really close. We've had our ups and downs, seen each other go through break ups and even a divorce (his) and it its been almost 11 years and we are still there for each other :)
I don't discriminate when it comes to making a new friend, girl or boy doesn't matter, its just how we mesh together

I knew there was a reason we're buddies.

No, men and women cannot be "just friends" unless both of them are not straight.
There will always be some kind of attraction between a man and a woman. one sided or not. and one of them(or in some cases, both parties) will want more than being "just friends" even if they just keep it in their minds and not inform the other person.
