Tsuritama. Y'know, minus the aliens... I can relate to Yuki really well. Being really shy and socially awkward. Having a random, hyperactive person suddenly befriend you and drag you everywhere. Learning to open up to people, make friends, move on from the past... Sounds like a lot of high school anime, haha, but Tsuritama's the only one that seemed real to me. Plus the whole fishing theme helps me really connect to it. Makes me remember all the fishing trips I took with my dad when I was younger. I can remember the exact same sense of excitement and accomplishment that comes with catching your first fish, just like Yuki. And Yuki's grandma being sick reminded me of when my dad was hospitalized. Sad times...

I seem to have written the most of anyone in this thread, pffft. Maybe I'm reading too much into the question xD

It varies but "Gantz" is as good a choice as any with its cast of conflicted and imperfect characters thrust into difficult situations and all of the resulting fallout from that. Obviously the settings the characters are thrust into are fanstastical but their reactions to them are a lot more plausible than the average anime. The "meta" factor of gratuitious fan service also adds to emotional impact in that it re-inforces the sense of alienation and loneliness that permeats this show (and which is reflective of society in general). We as humans tend to do things that are often not in our own self-interest or that of society in general and that is Gantz all over.

It's the same reason why it is easier to relate to a modern western like "The Unforgiven" with its flawed characters than some old Roy Rogers serial where everything is clearly defined good vs evil (the real world simply does not work that way).

Cheers
