That's what they intended. However, if you look at Melee, it became completely different due to the many unorthodox techniques that developed via exploits in the physics system. The speed that an average player had to play at definitely increased.

Only a novice believes characters were actually copies. Granted they're moves may look similar, but the characters are completely different. Marth's sword deals more damage when hit with the tip and also has a huge hitbox. This makes quite different from Roy. Roy is heavy and falls faster.

Gannondorf is heavier than Captain Falcon and his aerials lag more unless they are l-cancelled. If you are comparing the various B moves, then maybe they are similar. However calling one a "clone" of the other is just ignorant.

I am looking forward to it and even if I'm not that good at it, it is a fun multiplayer series and you should see the tourney turnouts for the last game Melee. And I think the more the merrier. This is the info online as well so far on the progress of the game:

You can say that for any sequel though. If you are a smasher you can totally tell the playing difference in the 2 games. Completely different style of thinking and approach. And they changed alot more than just more characters. The old characters got changed as well. A new engine doesn't mean its a new game. CS is the same as source just with better graphics and physics. Gameplay is completely the same. As with alot of other sequels...including zelda and FF (except 12...)
