Like you can really get rid of gangs.

Well it really is possible to dissemble gangs, probably not get rid of them completely. principiis obsta; If you cut the buddings somewhere, the plant will eventually die.

St. Louis is a fun place to live is it not? Better than it was a couple of years back.

Depends on where you live.. People who live on the East, and northernmost parts are those who enjoy the wild side of life with a side dish of a short life expectancy. The counties are usually quiet.. Gang influence dies out when you go into the more "surburban" areas like St.Charles.. or if you live in the sticks.

Well said man. And I do agree with you. They used to have a meaning. But now, it's just about.... "fitting in", I guess. It's supposed to be about brotherhood not some cliche meaningless crap.

Just wearing the wrong thing in the wrong place noticed by the right people.

I hate that. They act like they own the fucking place or something. It's like, they think they're better than everybody else and the whole fucking world owes them.

Yep. Its sad when a person gets beat up over attire.. I remember walking with a few friends one day, and they belonged in a "Clique". We was going down the street, and they stopped dead at the street line that entered into another neighborhood and were like "nope..can't go into there.. too many (insert opposition gang)."

This was NOT the intended purpose of gangs, or their actual visions. But, the originals leaders by now are either dead, or incarcerated. So things have since spiraled out of control.. then you have people just taking things up on their own wills and carrying them out as they do so please.

As others have stated gangs are nothing new most of history has had them whither they were called pirates, bandits, mobs, and so many more the only true way to get rid of them is a absolute totalitarianism that controls every human however that is extremely hard if not impossible to pull off and very few would support that solution.

If they legalized recreational drugs, the gangs and their ability to make a profit would end the same way all the prohibition era alcohol gangs ended nearly over night.

Funny thing about minding your own business is that people will approach you no matter what, happens to me very often, more often than people think im sure everyone in a gang is just an angry fuck... i have many lifetime friends in serious gangs and i know there are other reasons for joining gangs but its still never worth it, my 17 year old friend is facing 25years for having a gun on him and it sucks, you think this would be enough for the kids growing up respecting gangsters. But i guess not since the numbers seem to be growing...
Only thing to do is to try and spread knowledge about gangs, as you have done, and try your best to avoid anything more than the friendly "where you from" greeting they love to use.

You can reduce the impact of gangs but it all comes down to the allure of easy money for a lot of these kids and that allure will never go away.

You can help reduce the impact by taking a long look at education and changing the way and what we teach. Just need to accept the fact that not every kid is going to go to college and instead of wasting their time trying to prep them for it or teaching them things they aren't going to need, use, or remember. That's not to say they shouldn't receive a basic education but I think their should more more emphasis on learning a trade like working on cars, on computers, being a craftsman, and etc. A lot of these kids are talented and smart they just aren't smart in calculus, physics, and etc.

I say this because at least you're giving these kids an option for a well paying job instead of coming out of high school with the option of working a low paying service job or making a lot of easy money selling drugs. Of course a lot of them are going to sell drugs. At least if they come out of high school with some knowledge of a trade they might have a chance to catch on with a company that will pay them a decent wage and be a productive member of society.

That's just one thing you can do to curb gang activity but it won't solve the problem. You still have the problem of who's really in charge of all these gangs and that's the cartels and the other problem of the whole reason gangs and cartels are making the insane amount of money they make is the demand for what they sell. As long as there is a demand there will be someone to supply it for a price and the bigger the demand the more people that will be willing to supply it.

i too have had my share of experiences in my childhood with other kids wanting to be in gangs in stuff, i wont lie though i thought it was cool at one point and so did everyone else. In my early years i got into numerous fights (gradeschool to middle school) until it got to the point were the other guy would say hes in a gang or say his brother is(which would also lead to threats and etc), nowadays people should avoid getting into fights at all costs because you never know if the other person has a gang that can come after you, but regardless if someone is in a gang or not just avoid the attention and mind your own business
