I guess my favorite would be The Book of the New Sun, by Gene Wolfe. In general I like Gene Wolfe's writing, though.

My dad said he enjoyed reading Tom Clancy novels but after 9/11 they no longer seemed like fiction and he hasn't read any since.

Kingkiller novels by Patrick Rothfuss. First fantasy books to get me excited since LOTR. Books 1 and 2 are out with the third being written.

I should buy this book and read it over again.
The prophet of Kahlil Gibran. It is a good book. Pretty much about all life aspects in his view.

2. Love
3. Marriage
4. Children
5. Giving
6. Eating and Drinking
7. Work
8. Joy and Sorrow
9. Houses
10. Clothes
11. Buying and Selling
12. Crime and Punishment
13. Laws
14. Freedom
15. Reason and Passion
16. Pain
17. Self-Knowledge
18. Teaching
19. Friendship
20. Talking
21. Time
22. Good and Evil
23. Prayer
24. Pleasure
25. Beauty
26. Religion
27. Death
28. The Farewell
