Out of the ones i watched:
#1 - Fate/Zero S2 This show is awesome. Easily my #1 Love the characters, great fights, good story, and enough CG eye candy to choke a mule!
#2 - Dusk Maiden of Amnesia Was kinda slow to start, but the later episodes really get into Yuuko's past and gets kinda sinister.
#3 - Mysterious GF X If you get past the drool, you'll find a really nice story about the awkwardness of young love... but bring a napkin or something!
#4 - Bodacious Space Pirates High school kids running around playing pirate? How is that not great?
#5 - Medeka Box It's all kinda over the top silliness until you piss her off!
#6 - Upotte! I'm surprised I finished this show, but now that its over Im kinda sad.
#7 - Accel World I really want to like and do like a lot of this show. But I the main character is totally unlikable, and its not because hes a stereotypical shy overweight reclusive type, but because he never expands beyond it. All this stuff happens and he has all these interactions with people and he never really attempts to grow as a person.
Kids on the Slope
I'm sure Fate/Zero will be fucking badass when I decide to marathon it.
I've also been slowly watching Space Brothers... dat OP.
Deadpanditto's anime ranking for Spring 2012
I ended up watching far more shows this season than I normally do, so this is a long list.
1. Kids on the Slope
Its an excellent story about growing up, friendship, and Jazz. The characters are what makes this show tick.
2. Space Brothers
I'm biased. If it is about space, I'll watch it. But what makes this show is Mutta. His pursuit of his dream is just great to watch. And the other characters are quite well developed as well.
I didn't know what to expect when I first heard about this show. Fishing? Aliens? But the zany and moving story about these four fishing friends actually works. And the art was a breath of fresh air.
I look forward to watching these 3 minutes of hilarious roundness every week.
5. Accel World
I like the original take on not only the virtual world, but the unconventional romance. Haru is not the normal hero: he's not confident, he's not handsome. But he has other qualities that greatly outweigh those faults. This is just a solid show.
6. Dusk Maiden of Amnesia
This was another surprise. I wasn't expecting much when I first heard of this, but I ended up loving the story, the mystery, and the romance that form the core of this anime. Some people may complain about the last few minutes, but I liked it.
7. Nazo no Kanojo X
I'm a fan of the manga, but the anime adaptation has been brilliant. What's with these unconventional romances this season? If you can get past the drool, this is an excellent story about a budding relationship.
8. Mouretsu Pirates
It's about space, so I'm watching. Though this started the previous season, the second half really picked up the pace. The conclusion wrapped up this fun space opera and left me wanting more. I also love the soundtrack for the series.
9. Haiyoure! Nyaruko-san
Nyaruko's antics and the fantastic anime & movie references made this a fun watch. Solid entertaining zaniness.
10. Fate/Zero Season 2
The wrapup to the Fate/Zero story was very good. Thoughtful dialog, great fight sequences, but the story never really connected with me. And it was way too late in the story to introduce the motivations for the key characters. This could have been much better if not for a few missteps.
11. Lupin the Third: Mine Fujiko to Iu Onna
I haven't seen anything from the Lupin franchise, though I was familiar with it. Overall, it was a well written story where every episode connected with the final resolution. But, I never really connected with the characters.
Black Lagoon, I missed you! Jormungand is a great action series, but I didn't get much of an indication where this show is going, only hints. I expect season 2 will be better.
Another unconventional romance. It was good despite the father-ick factor. But, I still much prefer Wanko.
I probably like this show more than I should, but I still find it entertaining. It's all about Oreki being spurred to change by his friends, especially the purple eyed Chitanda.
15. Yurumates 3D
Silly antics of 4 friends that. It's pretty forgettable but still fun to watch. If this was longer than 3 minutes per episode, I probably would have stopped watching a while ago.
16. Saki: Achiga-hen - Episode of Side A
I haven't watched Saki yet, so I thought I'd give this side story a try. I've enjoyed it enough to learn Japanese Mahjong.
17. Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? of the Dead
This was good, but not as good as Season 1, imo. I'll still watch a Season 3, if it comes out.
I was totally prepared to hate this show. It still had some points that I really don't like, but surprisingly, the story was better than I expected.
19. Medaka Box
I didn't care for the manga, but the anime version worked better for me. I'm still underwhelmed, but for a satirical look at fighting anime/manga it
is pretty good.
20. Natsuiro Kiseki
Again, I probably like this better than I should, but this is a sweet show about 4 friends spending their last summer together. It had some very nice moments.
21. Sengoku Collection
I still don't know where this show is going. So far, I'm just treating it as an anthology of "what if" stories. It has its moments, but I really should consider dropping it.
22. Area no Kishi
Like Sengoku Collection, I probably should consider dropping this. It's just a soccer soap opera, that is occasionally pretty entertaining. To be honest, I'm just waiting for Kakeru to realize he likes Seven.
23. Furusato Saisei: Japanese Fairytales
I'm watching this just for the cultural information. The stories are hit and miss, though some of them are very funny.
I was a bit disappointed in this show since I like Matsumoto's work. The ending left me underwhelmed.
I'm a few episodes behind, but am sticking with this just to see how the season wraps up. I doubt I'll watch any subsequent seasons.
26. Hiiro no Kakera
Blech. I found this too slow, and I didn't like the characters, especially the MC.
1.Kuroko no Basket 10/10
2.space Brothers 8/10
3.Hunter x Hunter 8/10
4.Ginga e kickof!! 7.5/10
5. Recorder to Randoseru Re 7/10
6.Cardfight!! Vanguard: Asia Circuit Hen 7/10
7. Acchi Kocchi 7/10
1.Rock Lee no Seishun Full-Power Ninden 3/10
2. Shirokuma Cafe 3/10
I bit off more than I could chew this season, so I still haven't caught up with a lot of titles that I started But so far:
1) Kids on the Slope 10/10
This show was as near to perfect as any high school drama can get. The characters are lovable and relatable and the story is easy to get invested in. Plus the animation... And the music... Just brilliant!
2) Space Brothers 9.5/10
An amazing, heartwarming story, with a fantastically quirky humor and the most lovable main character EVER. Seriously, Mutta makes this show. Even if you aren't into space and astronauts, watch it just for him.
3) Tsuritama 9/10
Quirky characters, a strange plot, but a very heartfelt story. The animation is very unique and matches the feel of the show perfectly. The characters are very memorable and cute. I personally loved this show to bits, one of the most enjoyable, fun things I've watched in a while.
4) Polar Bear Cafe 9/10
It's just. So. Friggin'. Cute.
5) Sankarea 8/10
This is a pretty dark series for a RomCom. It has moments of depth that are rare to find in series like it. It has a unique and sad story that makes it stand out from the rest, and I highly enjoyed it.
6) Accel World 8/10
Surprisingly enjoyable and above-average for it's genre. The characters are likable and their relationships are unique yet realistic.
7) Medaka Box 7/10
This show is pretty fun. Each episode is a new little adventure. The characters are fun and quirky, albeit a bit annoying at times. The art isn't the best, but the bright colors match the tone of the show overall. A nice satire of action-tropes.
8) Hyouka 7/10
I really want to love Hyouka. The art is beautiful and the style is cute and unique. But the show's core plot, it's mysteries, are somewhat lacking. And the characters... Ugh. Very flat and unoriginal. The only one who's shown a hint of depth so far is the MC, whom I actually like. Chitanda is cute too, but I see no purpose for the other two (can't even remember their names).
9) Upotte! 7/10
I never thought I would like this show, but I do. It's actually quite fun and it has some good story elements. And I love the little tidbits of gun trivia!
10) Mysterious Girlfriend X 6/10
This show doesn't have a lot going for it in terms of enjoyment. It's basically just your average high school romance, but more boring and covered in drool.
11) Dusk Maiden of Amnesia 5/10
Another show I wanted desperately to like, but it just ended up being a disappointment. It would be a fantastic ghost story if not for the random ecchi comedy and annoying side characters. The camera angles are also really weird and distracting.
I still need to catch up on Zetman, Sengoku Collection, Natsuiro Kiseki, Hiiro no Kakera, and Acchi Kochi... *sigh* And I was planing on watching Nyaruko-san and Kuroko's Basketball, eventually...
"Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none." - William Shakespeare
What I liked and refuse to miss. Who am I kidding I watched them all anyway
1. Acchi Kocchi - Loved it, would not miss it for anything
2. Hyouka - some people wanted more out of this anime than there is, but they mysteries keep me guessing and they shouldn't be that hard.
3. Hunter x Hunter - Gon should be my son
4. Accel World - Tension between porky and Princess Snow Black and any other girl is a plus for me. Especially when she has blades for hands.
5. AKB0048 - Another one I won't miss, but not as high as the top 4.
6. Natsuiro Kiseki - I loved the pace of the show and the happy go lucky lives of middle school girls in a small rural town.
7. Bodacious Space Pirates - I really liked it and looked forward to it every week.
8. Uppote - I liked it, can't say why I did and others didn't, but I can't help what I like.
9. Saki Episode of Side A - Really!? you're going to stop at the end of this season like the first series ended? Unresolved, Really?!
What I didn't like
1. Sengoku Collection - Just something to watch I guess, I'm not even interested really.
2. Phi- Brain - Not sure why I'm still watching it, but it's something
3. Medaka Box - I hear it gets better in the manga, but the anime doesn't cover that (yet)
I got attached to these, but they're far from my favorites in any order
Sankarea - I should'a dropped this, but I watched for poor little Mero.
Dusk Maiden of Amnesia - Cool, and loved Yuko, but I can't say what I liked or disliked about the rest of it.
Mysterious Girlfriend X - cute, but terribly drawn out with emotional connections, but not much else.
Haiyore! Nyaruko-san - I guess I watched for Kuuko's interactions with Nyarko
Fate/Zero - cool, but I'm not partial to dark anime
Polar Bear Cafe - I'm addicted to this but I don't know why (still not a favorite though)
My dad is the coolest!
Of the shows I watched the past season
4-Kids on the Slope
-Dusk Maiden of Amnesia
*These are just the shows I watched all or most of the episodes*
1. Medaka Box 10/10 (Completed)
2. Acchi Kochi 10/10 (Completed)
> Recorder to Randsell 2 8/10 (Completed)
> Naruto SD: Rock Lee no Seishun Full-Power Ninden 8/10 (on ep. 11) (Some ep. are very good, some are very boring.)
> Hiiro no Kakera 8/10 (I'm still on 6 episode)
> Cardfight Vanguard 2 8/10
> Accel World 7/10 (Story is very good but all the characters are very annoying.) dropped
Still need to wach:
> Phi Brain 2
> Metal Fight Beyblade Zero-G (Will catch up if there will ever be subbed 3 previous series.)
I dont give anime that I watch less that 6 points
My top shows for the season:
1. Mysterious Girlfriend X
I am a fan of the manga, but only because the anime was announced and I decided to check it out before hand, then three days later I was eagerly awaiting the next chapter! The anime was an amazing adaptation, taking a great slice-of-life manga and turning into a more coherent, connected story with great flow.
2. Bodacious Space Pirates
I loved the show all along, but the final arc really moved this one up in my rankings! The action and intrigue of those last 7 episodes were fantastic! (Interestingly enough, those were anime original, with a story by the director, Sato-sensei. From what he said at Anime Expo, it looks like the movie will be the completion of this original story, leaving room for more series based on the remaining novels.)
3. Kids on the Slope
The music was fantastic and the interpersonal relationships great, with the exception of the extreme density of the main character in terms of Ri-chan's feelings.
I also would have liked to have more closure on the romantic relationship, instead of just the bromance.
Yes, it is understandable that he would be gun-shy after being shot down early on, but later on he knows she has the hots for him and still waffles, then blows it by being a total jerk!
Even a montage over the ED showing Richie and Ri-chan gettnig back together, Sen officiating their wedding, baptizing their kids, and Richie and Sen jamming out well into middle age and beyond would have sealed the deal. Instead we get the three friends meeting again and ... nothing!
I had trouble keeping up with this one, since it wasn't simulcast, but once I got to it, it was really great! In reality, it might end up being my favorite of the season when all is said and done. I love the characters, especially Chitanda, and the way the story is written is very, very good.
5. Natsuiro Kiseki
This one took me most of the season to actually watch. I watched the first episode early on, liked it, kept downloading the episodes but just never had time to watch them. Then I marathoned the series the final week of the season and really enjoyed it! I love the character relationships and growth displayed during the season and the way the wishes were played out. (Basically a "be careful what you wish for" theme, as the vast majority of the wishes, while they ended up teaching lessons or helping the girls in the long run, did not work out the way the girls expected them to at all!) The music was the big draw, as I am a fan of Sphere!
6. Accel World
This one is fun with great graphics. Some of the writing is a bit off and the characters seem childish, but then I remember that they are only in middle school, so they are really just acting their age. I like the way that Kuronekohime seems to be more mature most of the time and it seems that the story explains this by the amount of time she has spent in burst mode, which gives her more experience in the world than other kids her own age. That makes so much sense! However, it is just shy of being really great for some reason that I can't quite put my finger on...
7. Dusk Maiden of Amnesia
A pretty good series, but some of the episodes were a bit too pointless or strained credulity too much for me to really enjoy them, including the origin story for Yuko and why she is a ghost. (The level of superstition and stupidity is just too high for me to deal with. I don't care what the situation in the town is, what those people did was just plain evil and there is no way I can believe that it could reasonably happen. The same can be said for the echo of it in the end-game of the haunted house arc. Too much meaningless mob-mindset...) It had lots of good points, but the bad points were pretty bad. I also was not a fan of the "Just in case we get a 2nd season" ending, since they tied up the primary story in nice neat ribbons, then derailed it with that ending.
Shows that I watched part of and have yet to finish but probably will keep watching or pick back up:
Kore wa Zombie de Suka? Of the Dead!
Shows that I watched some of and will probably not watch more:
Shows that I might watch later but didn't, mostly due to Funimations stupid way of doing simulcasts getting them started after I was already busy with other shows!
I might pick up a couple more at some point if I have time...
1. Kore wa zombie desu ka? of the dead
2. Dusk maiden of Amnesia
3. Mouretsu Pirates
Good stuff I looked to check to see if it was up yet before it was:
Tier 1. Kids on the Slope, Bodacious Space Privateers, Fate/zero finale
Good Stuff I was up on much of the season and will surely finish sometime this month
Tier 2. Tsuritama, Polar Bear Cafe, Space Brothers
Stuff that I will catch up on sooner or later:
Tier 3. Jormungand
Stuff that I followed as it came out even though its actually quite silly:
Tier 4. Knight in the Area
Still older than the President and younger than The Ancient One
If I spent the time to watch it through then it was good to okay:
Bodacious Space Pirates (GOOOOOOOD)
Jormungand (Fun/ not a waste of time)
Medaka Box (okay)
Things I didn't complete but wanted to:
Lupin the Third
Kids on the Slope
Fate Zero (watching it right now, got behind cuz I started Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam... oldie but a goodie)
Space brothers (it was good, but i dont care to watch the show through)
Things I dont give a crap about and sux hard:
Just going through the list here...
1) Space Brothers
3) Accel World
4) Kore Wa Zombie Desu Ka
5) Acchi Kocchi
8) Mysterious Girlfriend X
So far, but I think that's pretty close to where it will end up.
I like Lupin, and this new series is interesting, but I just don't care for the focus.
Hmm, Bodacious Space Pirates started out good, and I still enjoy it, but it lost what I originally liked about it, I think.
Uh..AKB0048 is fun, but it's nothing spectacular.
Sengoku Collection kind of fell off the radar as I picked up a few different ones, but I'll finish it now.
Ozma, I just need to watch the last episode. Also fell off the radar as I picked new ones up.
And I still have some shows to pick up after these are finished.
