I've met up with some friends I met online, but it was years after meeting them and staying in contact. Still talk to these people today, since we game together.

I wouldn't want to meet total strangers, but I wouldn't have any problem with meeting some of the internet buddies I've had over the years, and I wouldn't be totally opposed to idea of meeting people from dating sites with some caution. But I have a feeling meeting my old internet buddies would be kind of awkward. I mean, we're talking... but it's not Xbox Live? What would we even do?

Well good luck with all that. I'm sure it works out fine, in some instances. Maybe you'll meet your soulmate.

Just read an article how a local guy was supposed to meet up with a girl he met online. When he arrived at the dark alley at midnight, two big dudes jumped him and jacked his car. Still can't stop laughing at that one...but at least he's not dead or dismembered!

It depends on what type of website and what your gut feelings are about a person/situation. Caution should always be taken if it's 'just met online' situation. My own experiences have been positive. The people I've met were from a metaphysical chatroom. I was invited to a meditation group that one of them led monthly at their home. I took my spouse along just in case and it worked out fine (we continued to go for about 2 years to the meditation group ). During that time we met others from the chatroom that were from out of town visiting our area, some at the medtiation group, at the airport during a long layover, lunch/dinner or at channeling events ( the chatroom we all were in was sponsored by a channelor we all followed). I know it sounds all woo woo weird, but they were a really nice bunch of people. 2 of the people we knew got married..the wife came from the east coast and went to Australia to meet the man who would eventually become her husband (they are still happily married). While the chatroom is no more and we lost contact for awhile; many of us have reconected on fb.

It would be awkward at first, but then you get to know them for WHO they are.. and they become legit friends. Its like meeting a girl over the internet. The conversations will be different, but the best part is that you're now there physically with them.

Yeah I get what you're saying, but I was talking about what we would do for fun. Even with the real life friends I have now, hanging out has become awkward, because all we have to do to pass the time when we're together is play games or watch TV. So...we'd meet up, and play games, I guess? lol, we do that already, and we haven't met... Only this time I'd raid their refrigerator.

Not based on messages and texts no of course not, but if we were talking a while and we have had video chats and i see on Facebook or whatever that the person has friends that post, put up pictures, or whatever that shows that the person was not a creep. I'm not sure if that made any sense, but yeah.
