Legend of Korra compared to The Last Airbender
Posted 6/21/12 , edited 6/21/12
The Legend of Korra is great but only because it already has a huge fan base.
I dont think it would be as popular if it wasnt part of the Avatar: The Last Airbender
franchise unfortunately. Now don't get me wrong im NOT calling it bad.

I love the show, it just doesn't have that light heartedness of the previous series.
With Aang and the gang ( lol ) i laughed almost every episode, except for the beach episodes on
the 3rd book. I find myself only laughing or smirking with Korra.

It's definitely more action oriented and aimed at a older audience, but the innocence
and naivety of Aang is absolutely missed and was an integral presence in the show.

Still Legend of Korra is very very good.

I was having a argument with my friend. He says Legend of Korra sucks. How do you think Legend of Korra compares to The Last Airbender?

Renamed your thread so it's different from this:
http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-684075

and moved it to the Anime Forum.

Honestly, why even compare? The series are suppose to be different. It's a new era. I don't understand why people even bother comparing Korra to Aang? They're not suppose to be the same! If anything Korra is suppose to be more like that 3rd last airbender who had huge feet, and had her face painted. Their personalities are more alike. I remember reading that Korra was suppose to be more like her. People complain for no reason. They should be thankful that we even get to experience and see another avatar's journey. :/

Seriously though, how can anyone complain about this:

Your friend has no taste lol The legend of Korra is freaking awesome

I love Korra as its own series, but I'll always love the original more. I like the characters of the original a lot more, and the adventure through each of the elements with Aang appeals to me more than Korra basically being a prodigy and already knowing three. Though it is nice to see her struggle through Air bending since we couldn't really see Aang learn that one in the same manner.

It's nearly impossible not to compare the two. One is the sequel to the other, after all -- maybe not directly, but still. The Last Airbender set standards for Korra, and people will expect it to live up to those standards. I think it most definitely has.

And there are always personal preferences. I like the story/characters of the original more, but the art in Korra is such a beautiful improvement. It's literally flawless! And I wouldn't want Korra to have a similar plot to Aang's story anyways. Something fresh and new is always good! Korra is amazing in its own right.

Sorry, but I do like The Last Airbender more. Though both are amazing series that deserve love and respect

Personal preference aside, they're both are just as good as each other.
The Legend of Korra is just aimed for a more mature audience, which gives it somethings of it's own while it allows the Last Airbender to keep some of it's uniqueness.Which obviously may not appeal to some people who don't like the changes.People are bound to do that.
But I like the Last Airbender more & for various reasons.

I haven't had much luck catching it on Nick; the guide'd say one thing, I'd tune in and something else was there instead. I already have ATLA on DVD, so I'll wait for it to come out, and I can see it all at once!

You do know that you can catch most of it online at nick.com? I don't think they have the first two anymore, but I could be wrong.

Personally though, I like it. It's different from the original and enjoyable. I respect both series on their own and don't compare them.

I was really looking forward to Legend of Korra, but I'm a little disappointed. Fighting changed, bending looks nerfed and wtf is up with all the metal/lightning bending? It made sense of Toff being able to metal bend. That said I do like the animation of Legend of Korra

They are both equally great series. Each having a strength of its own. It's great to see some variation and distinction from between the two, while still maintaining the fundamentals. The franchise has a big following regardless.

Last Airbender wins character-wise while Legend of Korra dominates the globular plot. It'll mostly be personal preference when choosing, which you'd like more.

I think it's just as good as the first series. I do wish that it was going to be a longer series instead of just a mini-series, but I can't complain about the quality. It does seem like things are moving faster in this series, but that's to be expected since it's going to be a shorter show. I did prefer the more relaxed pace of the first show, but that's personal preference and not related to the show's quality. What are your friend's reasons for disliking it?

I like Korra but it is inferior in every way to Last Airbender.
The writing had a noticeable drop in quality some of it was verging on cringe worthy especially when in came to the poorly handled romance aspect of the show.
Most of the characters were on the flat side (Mako and Bolin especially were poorly done) and less entertaining than the Last Airbender cast.
The pacing wasn't the best.
Did not buy the equalist getting the best of the benders for most of the show. Basic bender techniques would shut them down, one glaring example being the highly trained earth bender police not knocking the mechs over or tripping them with pillars and holes.

I think compared to the original it's not as good, but i still like it the one thing I don't like is how they kept the entire first season in republic city. I liked the first series cause they were travelling all around the world. Idk that's just what i think

It's definitely not as good as the original. I felt like it would have been stronger if it focused more on the spiritual side of the Avatar, as well as more on the atmosphere of Republic city (like politics and such), and less on the generic love triangles and the action scenes. I actually did like the change to focusing the story into one location though, and I actually like most of the characters in the show. I like that they did try to innovate and explore new avenues rather than just rehash the original. I'm willing to stick with them through the next season; there's enough there that I like and enough potential for more to like
