Very well said! :)

On topic: I can say plenty of stuff but I don't wanna type a big paragraph, all I gotta say is: you gotta have tough skin to be in the real world, specially in a working environment, you gotta do what you gotta do to survive. Believe me... (Personal Experience)

because either there jealous, bothered, or want everyone else to feel as bad as them.
a lot of times I see why people are mean to other people because they either deserved it or betrayed the other person, so thats the perfect time to be mean. I tend to be a nice person all the time but when im mean, I'll either wont talk to the person, tell the person why im mad at them and if they dont understand..."fuck off" and or i'll pretend to be nice to you until they give me a reason to slap the shit out of them lol

I have found that people who bully usually do it because they feel they are above everyone else around them, they feel entitled to anything and everything they covet - even if it means stealing it from someone who earned it; they don't usually think they are doing anything wrong or that that there will be consequences to their behavior. Unfortunately, the last part about consequences is probably close to truth nowadays where a parent can't even discipline their own child for fear of being charged with abuse.
And bullying starts young - that is a learned skill, honed by lack of attention, lack of punishment, lack of respect, selfishness, and greed. It puzzles me how mean children have become and how there is such blatant lack of respect for their elders. Even my 8 year old neice sometimes mouths off to me in a snot nosed "I know it all" fashion, and I firmly put her in her place usually with words, sometimes with a promise of a punishment. But I discipline her, I don't let her attitude go unchecked.
I don't know if parents are just plain tired of the uphill constant battle against the outside influences on their children, and maybe they just can't keep up with the onslaught of bitterness, hatred, and crap that the kids see from their friends and in the media - I mean hell fire, some of these Nick shows are teaching kids to talk back and act out and that you can do crazy things in school, and it's okay and will be accepted. I seriously find offense in some of the shows my neice would like to watch but thankfully my sister knows they aren't appropriate. But my sister is one in millions of parents that actually monitor their child...what of all the others who let the TV babysit while they work or go out? How about the parents that let their 14-15 year old on Facebook and don't monitor it somehow (just asking for pedophiles in my opinion).
I could go on forever, but we are a society breeding this behavior and yet we would all love to blame the little crap heads that are the bullies, when in reality we let them get away with this.
In short, if we always do what we have always done, we will always get what we always got.

I don't have an answer to stop mean people or stop the bullying that seems to be prevalent nowadays. I wish I had one. When I was bullied as a child because of my geekiness, I was lucky enough to find other geeky kids like myself who did want to be friends with me. You are always stronger in a group and with friends, never think you are alone. If any bullying goes beyond just simple verbal abuse and ever gets physical, go to a trusted adult. My parents actually moved and took me to the country and enrolled me in a new school - sometimes this isn't always the option, and I am not saying avoidance is the best option, but definitely talk to your parents - most parents I have met in my 33 years are willing to sacrifice anything for their child's happiness and well being.

You can't be TOO nice, though. People like to take advantage of that. I think there has to be a balance between being assertive and being nice and chill.

This thread... so many internet-psychoanalysts, for starters there MAY be common reasons as to why people are "mean" (doesn't necessarily mean bullying) but those reasons usually differ from an individuals experiences.

As far as "mean" people can be analyzed, it's all about perception, to you I may appear "mean" and you may appear "mean" to someone else, it doesn't mean any of us are "mean" but that we are perceived by one or more people as fitting that category.

To all you internet-psychoanalysts out there I offer a free warning: It's better to not give a psychological analysis of an entire group of people as it invites ridicule from your peers and can (and probably will) be used against you, having opinions is fine so long as they are stated as such, but saying in a definitive manner "This is why people do things" without being able to back it up outside of anecdotal evidence makes you look ignorant to much of the silent majority.

Some people just don't think of how others feel when they say certain things. Others just like being mean.
