As of right now, I'd say 5 Centimeters Per Second has the best animation... and it's head and shoulders above everything else.

Fate/Zero & Gundam UC Unicorn

Fate/zero is eye candy from start to finish, and in Unicorn, mobile suit combat has never looked so good; part of me just wanted to sit back and go 'ooh.... pretty!'

and since were on the subject of technical quality, the sound effects for both of those shows are awesome as well![/quote

Yeah these were the first 2 i thought of.

I actually like Time of Eve. Very good animation in my opinion.

Fate/Zero is lovely, Hanasaku Iroha was lovely, and at the time, I adored the animation of Gunslinger Girl (season 1). Not sure how it's held up to the test of time, though.

Yep I agree with both your picks but lets not forget that one fight scene in End of Evangelion, excellently done at the time.

this could be under the category of this thread... 5 centimeters per second.

May not be a popular anime and only has... As I can vaguely remember... 3 episodes?

Anyway, the quality of this anime is decent: character art, graphical movements, and the environmental detail. The story is for self preference if you like slice of life like myself, it has a bittersweet plot for those of the drama freaks.

Kids on the Slope for recent anime -- it's very smooth and visually pleasing, not to mention the accuracy of the instrument playing is phenomenal. Best looking anime I can remember off the top of my head. I also think Avatar: Legend of Korra has really beautiful animation, if that counts here.

I just started Fate/Zero the other day and I'm on episode 8 at the moment and while watch up to this point I see myself admiring how freaking beautiful that anime series looks. Especially the fight scenes! Holy crap!
I hear it get even better as you go on to so I cant wait to see more!

Sadly, most new animes have amazing, incredible animation - and then they skimp out on the actual story.

Fate/Zero and most anime animated by Studio BONES. FMA and Soul Eater were done really well. Especially with the scenes animated by Yutaka Nakamura. MadHouse does really good animation too. The new Hunter x Hunter has had some really good scenes, and you hardly ever notice a crack in the animation. Can't think of anything else...

Edit: And how could I forget the Studio Ghibli movies...

That is not true at all... your saying like all anime back in the day was good.. heck no. Back then there were shitty anime each season and a couple of good ones and now there are shitty anime each season and a couple of good ones, simple as that.
