Things got interesting with LNs. English translations have been licensed.

Pros: Finally! Official translation of the LN! It's the best way to support the author.
Cons: If they really go strict on the fan translations it will be 5 years until you can read the current volume.

I should be really happy at this news, but I'm not. I'm very worried that the latter above may happen.

I posted the same exact comment on the article but some illiterates decided it would be fun to thumb down my comment.

Yes the next season has been announced. Actually it's a reboot. It's called Log Horizon....

/fail

Considering it got a slot on non-Japanese television with a dub you would think it would be the perfect time for some news on GGO.

It really didn't copy .hack. Aside from the fact that both are about MMO's, they are almost entirely different.

SAO is about romance and action. It has to do almost entirely with a straight forward hero's journey type of plot. Whole bunch of people get stuck in an MMO (dilemma), it is up to our hero to get them out as he adventures through the world winning the hearts of ladies and slaying villains.

.hack is more about the social, psychological, and philosophical aspects of human interaction depicted through an online world. There is action, but it is primarily mystery. It usually only has 1 or 2 people stuck inside a video game, and generally the problems solved are more psychological and social problems exhibited by and large array of characters, and for the most part it isn't the main character (in the animes) who solves them, but a combination of the main character and other characters. If you look at Haseo from roots and G.U. he was actually a cause for quite a few problems. Although by the end of G.U. he does become quite Kirito-ish. However G.U. came out after the first few novels of SAO were written so if anything .hack copied SAO at that point. --- Kite is a completely different story, Kite was supposed to be a complete representation of the player rather than his own character.

Having not seen .hack//, did it really or do people just say that because of the shared setting?

I could see there being influences, but copied is a strong word.

Edit: Answered above.

Yet this the same logic that's applied to Log Horizon, see where I am going.

Were you replying sort of sarcastically to Calbackshoot3r's comment, implying his logic is flawed? If that was your intention, it went right over my head, I thought you were just trolling.

Let's get things back on a more positive note! Crunchyroll will be showing the TV Special on December 31. Sword Art Online Extra Edition

/forumtopic-827105/sword-art-online-extra-edition-on-crunchyroll

The synopsis makes it sound rather trivial, and I can't say I think I'll think it's very amazing, but I welcome a little bit of lighthearted fun during winter around holidays, so I'm guessing I'll probably watch.

I'm excited to watch this. Thankfully I'll still be in the US when it comes out.

Just a note, friends: There still has only been 1 season of SAO so far. But whatever, call it season 3 confirmation if you want.

Just like I mentioned in the other thread I'm surprised it's 2 hours. Even more surprised that I don't have to put an eyepatch for it I'm happy CR is running it!
