Loved episode 6 and cleared up a lot of stuff I was worried about

I also liked episode 7 even if it was a one episode "side quest". It adds a bit of progression to the main character and his ever-changing views on his mortality and what's important. I am seeing growth which I am always a fan of.

Still, the main problem is the fact that this is only going to be 12 episodes long? I feel a bunch of rushed episodes coming along. To put it as one person said "It should have embraced it's genre and gone into a full shounen powerhouse."

@funnyginsan: Its a 24-26 ep show, but the SAO arc will likely be 13 episodes or so, though they will have a choose between a couple minor stories in that case.

And judging by the title of the next episode, welcome to floor 74.

ahh thanks for clearing that up for me. Saw it listed as 12 episodes on MAL or whatever.

It would be nice if they explored the gaming world a little more and all it had to offer but I'm not going to look a gift-horse in the mouth so thank goodness it's 24-26 episodes

Ehh, the Light Novels are worth reading. I broke down and read them between ep 5 and 6/7. Though Volume 9 ends on a horrible cliffhanger, so unless you can read Japanese I advise waiting till 10 is translated, lol.

I actually read the manga first. The manga didn't include most of the side-stories from the novel, also I do not plan to read the light novels until I have a lot of time to spare. However, the anime was way more satisfying than the manga for me. In the manga, you basically get the beginning scene, and then time-skip jump to floor 74 without any explanation on who the heck is Asuna and her guild. Although the reader would be able to pick up the pace quickly enough, I feel that the anime has taken the right route in following chronology while making sure that things all make sense. The manga does go chronogically too, but omitting all the side stories will make you go '???' on who Asuna and Agil is and I prefer characters to have proper introductions instead of shoving an already built relationship into your face.

TL;DR - Anime > Manga by a whole lot, no idea about the light novels. Also, this is easily the best anime I have watched in 2012.

Thats how I felt too.

I believe they are using these past episodes to introduce the side characters. Although some of the writing is a bit weak in developing the characters feelings for Kirito.
I prefer when an anime tries to develop the characters, because it gives you a lasting iimpression about the anime.
I sure hope they don't rush the story too much even though its only lined up for 12 episodes.

I think this is an amazing series. If this became a long running series like Naruto, it would be a dream come true. But that's probably just because I'm a hardcore gamer myself. Still, I would love for them to explore more games and meet more and more people, Maybe even meet in real life once. But according to Wikipedia the light novels are still running so I guess we won't know how long It'll be before the light novels are finished :/

@Lord: They are at LN 10, they should be done around LN 15, the entire story is avaliable online on the Author's webpage, and it is complete.

I would like it more if it ended, considering there's an overarching plot here to be solved.

It won't be a long runner, Alicization is officially the last of the LN's storylines, and to complete everything would only be like 70 episodes. More if they went slower, but that is unlikely (as is them even doing an anime version of the Alicization arc, as that is still being published).

Well, I don't want them to stretch it TOO far out, it has to end sometime. However it would be great if they made more seasons with different games or something like that in my opinion.

I would prefer a short and sweet story with maybe a season 2 after SAO is completed
Perhaps 24 episodes x 2 will do the trick, would be absolutely perfect. But if SAO is really only lining up for 12 episodes, they sure have to rush the story in 5 more episodes? I can assume that they are getting back to the main plot
where the manga immediately jumped to in chapter 2. I felt that including the side-stories in the anime was the right choice as they helped to develop some characters and relationships. I don't really get the whole Lizbeth deal though, I felt that one episode was way too short for them to allow the viewers to actually feel for Lizbeth, especially when she was in the whole love-hate thing from the start.

Still not sure where everyone is getting 13 episodes from, everywhere when it was released said 26.
