Katie, there has not been a single filler. Nearly all of the "one shot" characters will be more important in the future, if they plan to go beyond volume 4.

OMG, not to put spoilers or anything, but I just finished reading the entire first volume of the light novels, and I have to say I was at the verge of shedding some manly tears at the end of it. I'm sure those who have also read the LNs know what I'm saying. I would suggest the LNs to anyone else also watching the anime, it just gives so much more information, especially the later volumes. I'm on the second volume myself and really enjoying the route the author took in making a sequel despite how volume 1 ended

Aw cool, cheers for that mate ^^, I'm so glad it isn't 12 episodes, that's too short, but perhaps 25 is just right

I was wondering, does any of the later volumes actually expand upon the ending of volume 1? I mean some people say that it had the perfect ending, but to me personally it seemed like a cliffhanger of more to come. I can see how volume 2 is expanding more on what happened before the end, but I want to know what happens after the end. |

Going by the episode names it appears that Volume 1 will last until 14-16 and the remaining episodes up to 25 will cover Volumes 3-4 without any side story breaks. |

I guess I better finish reading volume 2 quick. I want to read what happens after the end. So many possibilities after how volume 1 ended. I'm getting friggin excited already. Also I didn't know that the anime was going to be 25 episodes. That's beast if true because I think they can really expand upon the whole SOA story in great detail including Kirito and Asuna's relationship later on. Epic. |

I've just been introduced to Sword Art Online and i'm completely hooked. Started sketching the characters and i've already purchased 2 figurines; One of Kirito and one of Asuna.

I don't count episodes 2-6 as fillers. They are important side stories that show how Kirito develops. Imagine the Pokemon series, without those side quests and stuff we would just see Ash/Satoshi go from gym to gym to gym and then straight to the Pokemon league, without any interesting interactions or character development (not that Pokemon actually had character development, lol)
Sachi is an important driving factor, we can see what motivated him to go all out against the 74th floor boss. Asuna is Asuna, leaving her meeting with Kirito out like the manga will create '???' on how they met. Lizbeth may or might not play a role later, the murder scene seemed like a filler but they had some interesting development between Kirito and Asuna too. As I said, all these stories were somewhat important, compared to fillers which are totally unrelated to the story and has no development at all. |
