Also just noticed chrome_mist your signature is a little offensive isn't it? Not that I care all that much.

It's not directed at anyone so...

Well, I knew nothing about SAO until Crunchyroll advertized it, and I must say, it is awesome!

I'm getting a Hunger Games-ish vibe from it. Some people - like the protagonist - are quick-thinking, and make a run for to in order to gain experience, while others stay in the middle. I bet that, though everyone's freaking out right now, pretty soon some desperate people will realize that the fastest way to gain experience is to defeat other players, and they will start killing all the helpless people crowded in the middle.

How is Chrome's sig offensive? Are you a cunt? lol

Well, I just came to the thread again because I saw a pic on 2chan about the mirror scene. They took all the girl characters and replaced them with boys. lol it reminded me of that scene where the one guy says "I thought you were a girl?!"

Best part of the whole show. It still cracks me up how guys can be so dumb as to assume that a girl avatar is being played by a girl.

It's actually pretty good. I normally don't like the whole fantasy thing when it comes to anime... I'm not really diggin' it in this either, but I am forcing myself to get passed it. Anywho, the animation and design is wonderful, and it's definitely more interesting than much of the .hack stuff. I like the characters, and I want to sort-of care about them. Good, will keep watching. Hopefully it doesn't shit the bed in the end.

I read the Light Novels and absolutely loved the storyline. If the anime stays true to this, then this will definitely be a winner.
The actual animation wasn't as brilliant as I would have liked it to be - being a gamer myself and having played Lineage 2 for over 8 years (which is still one of the most stunning games in creation graphically), and having also played Aion and Tera which are also vibrant and beautiful - I just didn't get the same "wow" feeling from the anime that I was hoping would be there.

Not that I will stop watching it for a minute though. I am extremely excited about this anime!

There's a rumor going around that this will have 24 episodes, the same as Accel World.

First of all, I apologize in advance.

Second,
LEEROY JENKINS!

This is my first exposure to the franchise, and it looks like it's going to be interesting.

It was interesting that Kirito mentioned resources were going to be limited, considering how MMOs have respawning enemies, and, you know, grinding.

Is it just me, or does anyone get the vibe that the last episode is going to be Kirito losing to some powerful boss and then Klein showing up to save the day with his battalion of powerleveled, exploity munchkins.
Want to kick butt, study sword arts. Want power, study politics.

Be pretty hilarious if the backdoor way to get to level 100 was to grind the Climb skill and just scale the outside of the tower. Plus the grinding itself could be pretty funny, "Going to Climb the hell out of this tree! These stairs! This pile of food! This glitched piece of background! This metaphor!" Just like Quest for Glory, but with less nosepicking.

It seems like this might be worth continuing to watch at least for now. The whole idea of the story made it kind of ridiculous. Why would people actually play this game if they knew they could actually die? So they didn't know, that is why. Still, the fact that game developer would actually do this to people is absolutely ridiculous. I guess he is not afraid of the death the penalty, or getting sniped. I'll give it a chance to have a reasonable explanation and ending, but if there is not a full fledged man hunt for this dude in the outside world and they just go "oh well, I guess there is nothing we can do," It will be pretty lame.

I can be ignorant at times, because at first, when I didn't actually read about this so called "Sword Art Online". I thought it was an MMO game that CR had offer for us to play. Funny thing about is theres one day I got kinda bored off of my current MMO game and thought about trying out Sword Art Online, I went to the website, it took me to a different source, I googled it, and all this time it was actually an anime series!

The Light Novels explain a lot more about the plot holes than the anime or manga.

Not sure if it counts as a spoiler since it kinda correlates with the first episode, but meh. About plotholes people have mentioned after the first episode:

As for .hack or this being first, I'd say it can go either way. Most things that get published are written much earlier than the first publishing date (or at least prepared). These days, it can go faster but even now, it isn't instant.

I believe it was stated that the original version was written before .hack but published after. I honestly would not be surprised.

Also, using wikipedia as a source is faulty. Wikipedia can be a good place to find sources, but due to it being so easily edited, it does not make for a good source. I've seen plenty of instances where wikipedia had false information because some prankster decided to edit something. I've also seen good information taken down because it didn't have enough sources.

Regardless, as I stated in my review, the two do have similarities but also have several differences even with the similarities.

In all honesty though, though the anime is following the Light Novel it seems instead of the Manga, it still does have things left out.

Also, it is possible to make something that works like the NervGear. Problems are: cost, time, cost, cost, cost, and size. (And safety). You know that until a few generations have gone away, those generations would be more than happy to shut down any such development for various reasons from danger to something we don't need.. Like AI robots that look like real humans.

Also, Sword Art Online is not just an anime.

It is:
A Light Novel, a Manga, an Anime, and hopefully, the game will come to the US.

I'm personally tempted to make the NervGear real and to change my name and to make this game. Just for the fun of it. Problem is that I have too many morals to do it faithfully to the series XD (and could you imagine the costs of getting the licensing and permissions to do it?)

Have the light novels been translated?

They have not been officially translated, but there is a fan group called Baka Tsuki that has translated most of the novels. (I think they are done with all the ones out so far).

Though I have to caution you about the first volume. Make sure you get the version WITHOUT chapter 16.5 unless you are, ahem, 'old enough.' I made that mistake and was quite red and since I was reading it outside >.>

But regardless, it is very well done.

I believe the manga is being translated by fans and they've gotten a decent way in. I'm not sure if it is being officially translated though.

Thank you. Nice to have something new to read. =)
