Well I can tell you that so far the anime and English translated light novels have lined up pretty good in terms of what happened in the story. I will warn you that certain parts didn't happen in the main book but happened in one of two side story compilations. But if you started reading from the 3rd book, Fairy Dance, you'll be fine.

Yeah, I gotta say.. Truly one of my favorite (not-tearjerker) anime's. I hope they don't turn season two into a "more of the same thing" kind of thing. I do want to see some headway in terms of the story and character growth.

Episode 15 was way better than the rather confusing Episode 14. I still wished that they didn't rush to end Aincrad but it looks like something better is waiting in store for us! I'm hoping to see a more fleshed out second arc compared to the skips we had in the first arc.

And yeah, Sugu really looks like Sachi!

They are really following the Volume 3 for the new arc.

I really like this anime and even though I didnt read the light novel before , I had a feeling that SAO was going to be good. It is one of my favorites for 2012 so far.

BUT that SUgu guy lip licking part was annoying, I wish they didnt animate that, the seiyuu is already prety good in voicing the evilness of the character , that part is unnecessary

I agree with you man, the first 14 episodes skipped forward in time... ALOT. Anyways, I've got high hopes for the rest of the season

I havent read all the novel yet but according to wikki

most of the side stories are for the SAO Aincrad arc , but there is Volume 7 which is a side story during the second arc, Alfheim and one in Volume 8 . So I dont think they will put another SAO side story during the second arc.

I agree. I really enjoyed the first season, but I feel they really missed out on character development by jumping forward so much. I wish they would have taken their time with this anime and shown us some more level clearing and boss fights. Other than that, I am very pleased with this anime.

Okay, I seriously need to ask...

Did anybody else hate episode 15? Seriously bad.
Episode 14 was like the perfect ending! PERFECT.
The last thing you see after that insane climax is the wonder of the cliff hanger... that does not need to be continued.
Episode 15 was like a bitch slap to me. After the perfect ending to what was possibly the best anime I have watched all year. Suddenly... SURPRISE! Now it's this cheesy looking harem thing with a sketchy cousin!

With the writing of this sentence, I thought about what I just wrote and realized I'm probably being a little too judgemental considering I watched 14 episodes of mostly pure genius fantasy story writing, and then one single episode of anime slime... I'll continue watching the show and expect it to gradually improve in comparison to the first 14 episodes.

I'm sorry once again... I just finished watching episode 15 like ten minutes ago and I just seriously couldn't understand why it was so bad. It was so bad it confused me. I've seen shit like this before of course... where the first season is freaking amazing and it shouldn't have continued... but it did... and it would be terrible. Ugh, yuck. I will be so sad if that happens to this show.

tl;dr , I'm kind of high right now and I thought Episode 15 of SAO was f**king terrible.

Having read up to the 3rd volume of the SAO manga I was at least mentally prepared for the fairy world change over. However I kept this a secret from my friends and wife who are also watching this and their reactions are quite similar to yours. haha Its amazing how quick they went from "This show is pretty badass" to "Elf/fairys and sister/cousin love,... WTF am I watching?"

The change over should be explained reasonably enough next ep. As for the Cousin thing: it IS a harem anime (did you not notice almost every girl he met in SAO falling in love with him?), it's simply that Kirito completely fails to notice anyone but Asuna, as his (sister/cousin) is well aware.

The harem-izing probably is a result of condensing all the Aincrad novels into 12 episodes. The tragic relationship with Sachi and the love triangle with Kirito, Lisbeth and Asuna must feel a lot less crowded over half-dozen light novels.

Damn, Now I'm convinced that I need to read these books.
Are they Manga or actual novels? I'm down to read them either way.

There is a Manga and a Light Novel of SAO.
IMO, the Light Novel is considerably better compared to the Manga.
