Discussions often (and even hopefully) contain opposing opinions. It's one thing to dislike a character, a show, or an entire genre for that matter, and carry on a discussion about it...but I find there's a greater amount of vitriol in this case, however. That kind of hate doesn't really foster discussion, but arguments. I'll take well reasoned arguments (even emotional ones, if well thought out) over "I hate this character, and everyone who likes him/her is stupid." type arguments. I saw an episode comment defending Suguha's reaction, and the first response to it was along the lines of, "So, you support incest?" (Fact: 26 U.S. states have legalized marriage between first cousins. Six of those have specific conditions under which it is legal.) It may be taboo to many of us - I know I wouldn't want to marry one of my cousins - but before in the U.S. yells "WTF, Japan?" they should note that they have a decent chance of living in a state where it's legal. My objection was more with being told, however indirectly, not to state an opinion in an opinion discussion. Personally, I don't harbor the kind of vitriol to which you refer, but I know that others do. My reasons for disliking Sugu aren't really even about her feelings for her bro/cuz. :P. I just find her grating, and i said as much. Still, if some or many are repulsed by the "incest" elements, (note that I never even referred to it) then that's to be expected with such a hot topic, one considered vey tabu in many cultures. Personally I also find it unappealing. But even more so I found the sighing, moping mooning and bed-flopping that Sugu does even less palatable, which is what prompted my own response to the above-referenced Sugu defense posts. :). I merely sought to point out that it's a little unrealistic to demand or expect that people cease and desist stating their conflicting opinions in a thread such as this. I respect your opinion, and I apologize if it seemed I was directing that at you specifically. That was not my intention - I was agreeing with you about carrying on discussions; I just prefer people to be civil about it. The rest of my response was more of a general one, and the vitriolic comments I have seen have mostly been in the episode comments, and in one of the other SAO-related threads. I want more discussion, and less arguing. No worries or need to apologize, at all! I usually don't even bother posting in discussion threads like these because I've got such a low tolerance for those ragey tirades you see all over, full of poorly worded, inflammatory op's. I was already on here though, posting my issue in support about CR constantly spanking my PS3 into a black screen, so I was checking out the forum. Your responses didn't offend in the least. |

Oh god...
Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide I can't believe the cliffhanger episode 22 just left me. Talk about intense. Right when Kirito said he needed to find Asuna to his Leafa I was like, ohhh shit! Damn, next Saturday couldn't seem farther away. |

I had a revelation while watching the episode yesterday and I forgot to mention it in my post.
Kirito likes wearing black clothes. He likes using BIG SWORDS. He prefers to be alone. Somehow that seems somewhat familiar to me. Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide ![]() Makes me wonder if that was the source of inspiration for when the author made Kirito, and then everything just went south when the author went for originality. |

Oh for Gods sake, I wasnt really telling anyone to shut up, especially not ChronicSmile... I wasnt even thinking of her post when I wrote what I did. I wasnt even telling anyone to shut up... just to stop whining about it every chance they get.
If someone has content to their message besides the complaint thats fine, but just complaining about how much they hate suguha everytime her name is brought up gets annoying and old, really fast. |

Since he relies so much on plot-armour, Gary Stue powers and Deus Ex Machina. Oh and the Harem Lure, which makes every female character with a name fall for Kirito. Plus I feel like Kirito has so much potential, abilities he can use and he just squanders those abilities in favour of battle rage. In SAO it wasn't that noticeable, since he relied on his sword no matter what there. But in ALfheim he has so many illusions he can cast, to help him in combat - his race is even the weakest in combat! And yet, he time and time again prefers brutal attacks & Gary Stueing over finesse and smart manoeuvres. Kirito is not a smart character by any means. He is just hard-working and stubborn with a touch of superior moral compass. He doesn't know his limits, nor does he know how to push his limits properly. In comparison of other characters who battle regularly, he appears as an infant. |

Don't get me wrong SAO is freakin awesome but it is overrated
just think is it sword art online or ALO now thats not the problem its just like some guy from another forum said he runs in to an impossible situation and what happens derpity derp derp he comes in with his magical powers and BAM he defeats the enemy sorry but many episodes back he loses all his fricken health and what magic derping powers shoe up and he kills the guy. Another reason saying that it is overrated is the fact that he is so serious about dying in alo i mean come on in SAO maybe he could be freaking out about dying but in ALO the worst thing that can happen is that he'll respawn at the nearest town. Im not a fan of the whole cousin on cousin thing going on there along with that point every freakin girl in that series falls in love with the guuuuuy sorry ladys I dont get why they would fall in love with a battle crazed maniac. CAPS LOCK FOR EMPHASIS SURE SWORD ART ONLINE IS A GREAT SHOE BUT DON'T TURN IN TO A DIE HARD FAN AFTER THE FIRST COUPLE EPISODES LIKE THE SHOW BUT DON'T CRY IF IT STARTS GETTING SUCKY |

I do hope they get another season, I mean it's not like there is a shortage of material to work with.
Only thing I could see wrong is that the two phantom bullet ones that came next are in my opinion the weakest of the LN's. What I mean is that it would be a shame if they did an anime for phantom bullet only to have it die before reaching Mothers Rosario and the Alicization books which are so much better. |

CAPS LOCK FOR EMPHASIS SURE SWORD ART ONLINE IS A GREAT SHOE BUT DON'T TURN IN TO A DIE HARD FAN AFTER THE FIRST COUPLE EPISODES LIKE THE SHOW BUT DON'T CRY IF IT STARTS GETTING SUCKYYou certainly aren't wrong, but I look at a lot of what's mentioned in a different light. For one, you see it all the time today in anime where the lead character pulls out trump card after trump card, so while I don't like it a whole heck of a lot either, it's everywhere, something to deal with I guess. I did like this most recent episode for Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide having Kirito drop to 0 and realize he isn't invincible Regarding the emphasis on death, I think it's necessary to maintain in the series. It was such an integral part of the first game, and you also have to think in the grand scheme of thing in the ALO arc: Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide He has a week before Asuna gets married to that jerk, so he needs to work fast before he loses what he's fought for the entire time: her and her love. Any time lost from having to go back is important. Yes, he has to log out and sleep or whatnot, but he needs to devote his time to figuring out what to do there. Also, two years trapped in a game has serious effects on your psyche, and there is still the ever-present fear of this world turning into the previous, seeing as the new man in charge is nearly as sick, maybe more, than the previous. With the girls, I agree that's a bit overboard. In a socially awkward society like a video game, though, and you have a guy like Kirito there that is in the game's glossary under "Badass" (more than likely ), yeah, not the most surprising thing in the anime. I haven't been too thrilled in the show since the first arc finished in Ep 14, but it's still a fantastic anime I think. I've very much enjoyed it with my friends, and I hope there's more past 25. |
