Just finished the anime moments ago. Was really good, but I prefer the SAO arc simply because 1.) it was the arc that gave me the initial impression and feeling of the show and 2.) because it went much more into detail about the world it took place in.
In the AFO arc, they said all this jazz about the warring 9 races of Alfheim but only barely dealt with a handful of them. I feel that the SAO world was much more explored and detailed than the AFO world. I don't know, I just wish it was more... filling, I guess.
All in all, it was a delicious anime. Definitely something new that I can say feels unique. Kinda makes me wanna play an RPG or something now.

It's funny my husband watched the show faithfully every week and told me to watch it but omg avoid the forum.. LOL I read all 90 pages.. I'm happy I missed it.. That said having spent the last 2 days marathoning it he was right! I totally love the series and hope it gets renewed and we see more!
As an aside.. one of my favorite moments was way back during the Silica episode where the gang is about to "kill" Kirito and they can only do 400 points of damage per second and he kept regenerating more of it back. The "I can do this all day" (paraphrase) just made me cackle for a while.

I seriously hope they make anime versions of GGO and UW, I'd love that.

if this sounds off topic i apologize. i really do not want to sift through 90 pages of comments to see if this was mentioned.
Has anyone here read "Guardians of the flame" By author Joel Rosenberg? it is a series of novels from the 80s. about a single group of D&D players that were transported into their gaming world by their DM. i was noticing little things here and there that reminded of those books. i only read the first 5 books but i enjoyed them.
Do not get me wrong i am not saying anything bad. just a little ummm suggested reading..

to be honest i thought it was a little rushed it would have been nice if there was more Asuna and Kirito scenes (romance person) ^ ^

yeap we have a long discussion about that.
The Aincrad arc was indeed rushed but ALO part was not too bad although they have cut off some parts and details...
I have said it before , If I were to redo this anime. I would make the Aincrad arc 24 episodes . Stop a season and then the ALO arc. Stop a season and then followed with maybe the Gun Gale arc and then the OVAs until the end of the books.
In this way one can maximize the marketing potential of this anime since it will make this anime fresh in the minds of the viewer for at least more than a year

So to the be people that have read Gun Gale and possibly Underworld, how are these two compared to the other two arcs (I imagine that they're better than ALO)?
I hear that Gun Gale is suppose to be awesome, but I want to get some more opinions.

I can see people probably not liking GGO, since the bulk of what the story is about is dealing with emotional/psychological scars. they'll probably sit there and whine about how Kirito and Sinon are being all emo or whatever.
but I liked it. it had some good characterization, and I thought the action scenes were awesome. oh, and...
Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide
Mother's Rossario, I could see turning into a good anime. I really would like to see this.
Alicization... well, I'm not sure how well this would be animated. it goes into great detail about underworld, so it's more things I could see getting cut out like what they did with the Aincrad and Fairy Dance arcs. I like what I've read so far, but I'm still waiting for the rest of vol.11 to be translated, as well.

Good to hear!
And isn't Asuna the main character in Underworld?

no, she's the main character in Mother's Rossario. most of Underworld is spent on Kirito, but Asuna does have some moments.

Personally I have high hopes for Sword Art Online Progressive, and although it's still in beginning stage I can't wait for more. And the waiting for every next book will be excruciating... But there's hope that once, not any time soon, but once, we will get another series that will fill all blanks in SAO arc.
Btw, I'm waiting too for vol.11 to be translated, but I think Project Alicization would be, if handled carefully, a good anime. It's more consistent and doesn't have so much episodic character as Aincrad arc did.
