Jeez, what a roller coaster of emotions this episode was! Holy crap! When Iori first walked into the club room and said she had switched

But the worst part was on that bridge. When Heartseed made a sudden appearance in Iori's body at that point and said something to the effect of how boring he found all of them and that they didn't take his experimenting seriously enough, and then had Iori hand Taichi her cell phone....I suspected what was coming and was like "Oh Hell No! She's not going to do what I think she is, is she?"

Suffice it to say I was practically screaming at the TV screen those next few seconds. I mean Iori is possibly my fav character. I like her as much as I like Eru Chitanda from "Hyouka", and was pretty upset to see her go through all of that this episode.

Amazing series. I had high hopes for it before the season started and so far it hasn't let me down, but rather exceeded them.

Nobody has brought this up so far, so I want to ask this of everybody: Think about it from Iori's viewpoint. If that happened to you....if suddenly out of the blue you found yourself one minute standing on a bridge talking with someone about something big like a confession, and then you found yourself in a hospital waiting room and suddenly got that bit of news she did and you only had 30 minutes....what would you have done or how would you have reacted?

KaiserSosei, I think Iori reacted just as her character should have. She has said previously that she felt like her personality was going to slip away so she was fairly accepting of her fate. Me personally, I would have raged about how unfair it was, I would not have taken it nearly as well as she did! But they didn't have any options so I think she used her thirty minutes well to say goodbye to everyone.

Episode 5 was definitely the best episode of any series I've seen this season. Loved it. The people that gave up after episode 1 have no idea what they are missing.

Inaba is all kinds of awesome. Too bad she can't tell Taichi how she really feels.

Loving this series. I think a lot of anime could benefit from the frankness and meddling of someone like Inaba.

Honestly, there really isn't a character I dislike in this series ....

Let me clarify I was not inferring that Iori acted out of character (whatever "her" character is) during the end of that episode in case anyone was thinking that.

Now that being said, I call BS on that "she was fairly accepting of her fate" bit. If you go back and watch it again you see how she really felt when she broke down in front of Taichi when she was alone with him while in Inaba's body. If they had just told her when she woke up in Taichi's body that she was about to die in 30 minutes, she would've broke down then too. But the also told her that she could live if one of the others took her place. In that moment she knew she had to put on a strong face (become another person like she always did). If she broke down she knew any one of the others would have tried to persuade her to change places or even tell heartseed directly, and she didn't want that. And if she went all the way down crying and sobbing she knew the kind of trauma it would put her friends through watching that. So she put on a strong face & tried to make everyone at peace with it as best she could. But Taichi knew why she was doing that and acting so cool about it, and is the reason why he said he wouldn't cry, so Iori could actually "be herself".

And THEN....we saw the real Iori being the scared little girl not wanting to go.

On second thought you are right, somehow I forgot that part after she was out of danger. Not BS, just remembered her initial outward reaction instead of her private breakdown. It is a change in her outlook in my opinion but a good one. I could still be wrong...

Fair enough.

But another thing I was thinking about today while at work (I have a super boring job, so leave me alone): What are all the other students at their high school thinking about all of this. They don't know about Heartseed or the whole body swapping bit, so all they see is a pretty popular girl they know who they see as just having tried to kill herself. I wonder if the anime is going to show Iori dealing with all the "looks" from other students and how they think she might be unstable or something. Especially Maiko Fujishima, who at first tried to stop Taichi from going after Iori, but then decided to let him go after her, thinking he would be what she needed most at that time.

I wonder if she's going to hold a grudge against Taichi, thinking he was to blame for Iori jumping off that bridge.

Another thing I read out there on the blogosphere is how some ppl really thought she was going to die because it looked like most of her character development had already been done up to that point, so it wouldn't be that unbelievable. Others point out that Heartseed went to the trouble of giving Taichi Iori's cell phone right before, so that was like proof that she would survive. I dunno about that one, but what about you guys?

I don't think we can trust Heartseed one bit. He doesn't harm innocents? And we should have known that from the phone bit? Really??? Throwing someone off a bridge counts as harm in my book.

At the end of the episode, I wanted to tell the characters not to eat the cake. Would you?

Indeed a suicide attempt is what it will look like to outsiders but the preview didn't seem to mention that so I'm not sure it will go down that path. Not sure if Maiko will factor in either.

Seems i wasn't the only one who felt Iori could die. Perhaps that's what made me think she was accepting of it, the character seemed like the one most likely to get lost in the personality swapping.

Heartseed himself pointed out that he'd gone out of his way to save her cellphone but I agree with Deadpanditto in that he is NOT harmless. Iori easily could have died. I have not figured out yet his purpose. For a moment he reminded me of Nagelum from the ST:TNG episode, the immortal alien who wanted to understand death but I think it is more complicated.

If he wants them to eat poison cake he can do so. You might as well...

We shall have to watch and see what happens...

Yeah I can see how Heartseed can remind you of Nagelum from ST:TNG, but when he first took over Iori and said things were getting boring (or something to that effect), I immediately thought of Ryouko Asakura from "Haruhi Suzumiya", right before she tried to kill Kyon to "speed things up a bit" in that universe because Hauhi wasn't doing anything. Maybe Heartseed is connected with the Integrated Data Sentient Entity?

So.....Taichi x Iori or Taichi x Inaba? I really like Inaba, but I think I like Iori a tiny bit more and after this weeks ep I think I'd feel a bit sad if she ended up alone and losing out to Inaba, but that's just me (but I hate the idea of Inaba being left out too though). So should we start some kind of poll or something on this?

Haruhi Suzumiya is the opposite as they are there because she is special, because she does something. Tired of waiting Ryouko tries to move things along. I don't think Heartseed knows about a (for it) past event in this case, I don't think Kokoro Connect is about time travel but I could be wrong.

Both could be the answer or Iori in Inaba's body or vice versa or both of those situations... Complex poll
