It means whatever you want it to mean.

It sounds like C isn't an assassin if he is having a change of heart during a business arrangement. So A should have picked someone more suited for the job, preferably someone who knows how to keep business ethics separate from personal morals.

Are you seriously asking this question? Murdering people is not a promise one is morally obligated to keep. Even if it were, the moral obligation to not kill others and in fact treat them as one would want to be treated far supersedes any obligation to keep one's word. There is no conundrum here. It is not necessarily wrong to not keep a promise. The situation in which one made a promise can completely change to completely void any guilt incurred in breaking said promise, and there is such a thing as extenuating circumstances.

No, it is not wrong to break an immoral promise. One is obligated to prevent as much evil as possible in one's choices, and since all human beings have an inherent right to life, your example is ridiculous.

suppose, murder is morally wrong. Furthermore, let us suppose that breaking a promise is also morally wrong.
Now, A hates B so he hired C to kill B (Let's assume that C's reward for killing B is money.)

Note: any kind of reward for C is also possible.

C PROMISED A to kill B, As C is preparing to commit the deed, C has a change of heart, and decides that he will not go ahead with the murder.

Was it morally wrong for C to break his promise to A?

Well, that scenario is very straight-forward. C did right. Good for C.

But there are some more complicated cases of an 'immoral promise'. Say, for example, your brother committed murder. He comes to you, obviously very distressed, swears it was an accident, and pleads for you to keep quiet about it. You know that your brother is the sweetest guy alive and you have never seen him intentionally harm someone, so you promise not to tell. Now, the cops are out looking for the murderer. They don't know it's your brother. You've seen a lot of coverage of the crime on the news; you start getting jittery. When the cops call you in for questioning, you end up spilling the beans and they capture your brother.

Was it wrong or right to break that promise to your own flesh and blood?

are you done with pseudo-philosophical threads yet

you have to think of something called the "greater good." morally, it's a universal truth that taking someone's life is worse than breaking a promise. the act of murder ~outweighs a betrayal of trust. so we can assume that even though you're wronging someone by going back on your word, you're going with the less of two moral wrongs by not murdering someone

Please die soon these topics are getting old. and I don't think it's morally wrong to break a promise why bring morals into it? it's more of a trust thing to me.
