43 really isn't an unusual number for the fall. Fall 2011 had less, but no by much, and it is still handily beaten by spring of this year. The count is actually up to 44 now, as one was announced since the last update. Another in variances from season to season are longer running anime that might be ending (i.e., SKET Dance).
For exclusive simulcasts, TAN essentially seems to be out of the game now. The closest thing they have currently to an exclusive simulcast is Love, Election, & Chocolate, and was a very late starter that won't quite catch up to current before the series ends. TAN is good for library titles that you often can't get elsewhere legally except on disc or per episode rental or purchase per episode.

Those guess aren't that bad, but Funi usually only gets about 3 or 4 shows at best a season so I think you could cut a few things off that list. I also think Viz may end up getting more than one simulcast this season. They did get 2 shows for the spring and with them trying to push the Neon Alley thing they'd need to acquire as many new shows as they can to put on there eventually to attract more users so I could see them becoming a bit more aggressive with simulcasting. Guess we'll see how that goes.
