Did you miss that Crunchyroll will be simulcasting the new Hayate series?

They are saying they hope FUNimation picks it up for home video distribution.

FUNimation ends up picking up a lot of series for home video distribution that they did not pick up for simulcast. Strike Witches, Shangri-La, Serial Experiments Lain, Linebarrels of Iron are just a few that jump off their recent/scheduled release list.

Picking up a release for dubbing is a substantial financial commitment, so while they do pick up some they go for right away, a lot they have to wait and see what the streaming audience and demographics look like before they can pick it up.

I wondered if that was what they meant...

Back in the day I bought anime on VHS where you either bought a sub or a dub. The sub was always more expensive which must be simply supply and demand as the dub must cost a lot to make. I always got a sub if I could, please even with the higher price.

@hpulley: No, but I do wish that someone (preferably Funi) gets it.

So Sentai has Chuunibyou, which really doesn't surprise me. However, it does make me wonder if the question mark boxes don't include the Sentai sub licenses. Sentai has announced 5 that crunchyroll hasn't yet announced, and there are only 6 empty boxes right now.

That may indeed be the case. I wouldn't be surprised if CR ends up announced all the Sentai sub-licenses at once, and the current boxes represent the other titles they have lined up.

At this point, we have 4 that would be close calls unless announced today (and late after mid-day Monday; the earliest airs at the 12:35 PM EDT):

Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun
Kami-sama Hajimemashita
Chiisana Ojisan
Litchi De Hikari Club

Perhaps it is no coincidence that none of these are among the titles Sentai has announced as having licensed. Those first two are TV Tokyo series, so the odds for CR having them are good. The second two are short form anime, which CR seems to have at high success rate at licensing.

Don't know whether they include any Sentai sublicenses, but with would be very unusual if they contained all the Sentai sublicenses ... over the past few seasons, the earlier announcements are dominated by direct streaming licenses, and the later announcements by sublicenses.

I think if Kami-sama Hajimemashita is going to be simulcasted, Viz would be the one doing it considering they already licensed the manga.

I doubt that. Checking back to the beginning of 2009, I see not a single TV Tokyo title that Viz licensed as a simulcast that CR didn't also get.

In fact, although I was only checking for Viz-exclusive licenses for TV Tokyo shows, I only recall seeing one during that period that was licensed by Viz as a simulcast (and that was the still-running Naruto spin-off), which is shared with CR.

Funimation has provided far more competition to CR for shows on TV Tokyo than Viz.

It's nice to see that CR didn't overlook Ixion Saga. From the picture alone the series looks terrible but it does have very good staff (Gintama's original director, series composer/head scriptwriter and animation director plus an all star seiyuu lineup).

I figured there would always be a chance for Ixion Saga since it is a TV Tokyo series. Since in the next day or two, there are three different series that have not be announced yet that premiere on TV Tokyo(although Gyrozetter also looks like a kid's series). Ixion Saga was not in my predictions, although it probably should have been since it does air late at night.

Since a few of the Sentai licensed ones debut late this week, I imagine that we'll see more boxes added and we'll see more Sentai shows announced here. And near the end of the announcements, we'll likely get that new YTV J-Drama announced as a simulcast too.

Last season, CR had at least half of their simulcasts announced before the month started.

it does not matter what series crunchyroll may get in their line-up. they can not get all of the series we are interested in soooooooooooooooooo we will not complain. as long, they do not delete were we stop in the series. like, if the series has 300 ep and we decided to stop at 149 and not watch for a whole month, because were watch other series. we like to return to the series and find were we left off and not have to start at the very BEGINNING.
