I don't understand why people must call them 'grammar Nazis.' They're not inherently doing anything wrong by correcting someone's grammar. It is the manner in which they do it and the amount of 'slack' they are willing to allow. Honestly, nobody has PERFECT grammar, but I think some people really need to put more effort into reading and writing. Hating having your grammar corrected doesn't mean you ought to complain that someone is correcting your grammar. If it's wrong, it's wrong.

As long as you don't mix the people who don't mean such corrections to be insults with those who do, I suppose that is okay.

Learn what a grammar Nazi is first. Its basically a form or trolling or lousy debate skills. People only become G'Nazis after they are losing a argument and can only intentionally target a person's typing skills or spelling ability in a attempt to upset them or change the topic at hand.

Yeah, but where do you draw the line? Some people get extremely angry if anyone corrects their grammar. Others actually do have such bad grammar that correcting it is required for their stuff to be comprehensible.

You draw the line when someone takes the time to correct 1 misused letter in a paragraph or sentence that has no other faults in it. A G'Nazi will intentionally do this to upset the person.

I understand everyone prefers great spelling, and grammar.. But when it comes to the internet, the way most people view it as is simply; We're not being graded, so why bother?

Haha, I've never personally encountered anyone like that, actually. What a waste of time. I don't bother correcting anything unless I need to do so in order to understand what ideas are being expressed.

Kinda pathetic if you have to use grammar correction as a comeback in an argument/debate. I'm just going to laugh at you for your lack of creativity and inability to come up with something better than that. I find it most humorous when people get upset over one correcting their errors and and make jeers at them, the reactions and comments are mildly amusing. :3

The term was coined by MMO Gamers. A person would have to type what they want to say or reply with really fast, so you don't really have forum-relevant amounts of time to write up a proper rebuttal, which results in spelling errors at times.

Why you haz quotations there? You missed the other half. lolz

I think correcting people is okay as long as our not trolling or being an asshole about it.

Also, since you're talking about... science stuff... here. Irrelevant

It's mostly used as an ad hominem attack. If the person's points are intelligent enough, than his or her grammar shouldn't matter. People usually do this when they're losing a, argument and is a sign of a person with weak debate skills.

As for me, usually I only fault someone's grammar when they're either being insulting, unintelligent, pompous or an asshole in general.
People who claim to be highly intelligent than everyone else, yet misspell the most simple of words deserve to be criticized.

In 2009, the then British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who has limited vision due to a teenage rugby accident, hand-wrote a letter of condolence to a mother whose son had died in Afghanistan, during which he misspelled the deceased's surname. The Sun (a tabloid newspaper) published a vitriolic article criticizing his lack of care. In this article, the paper misspelled the same name and was forced to publish an apology of its own.

I just used grammar to insult somebody, but I had already tried to reason with him for too long. I constantly tried to point out that he was resorting to petty (and infantile) insult and was avoiding my questions, so I decided to rub in his childish ways by insulting his grammar. However, I still insult other aspects of his fallible logic, so I hope I'm not acting too out of line here.

I hope he reads this and gets even angrier. I love this boy so much.

lol, seriously. and that funny moment when they corrected you, but they themselves have mistakes :3

I love the classic use of "your" instead of "you're" or vise versa. Also enjoyable is an inability to capitalize and use punctuation. I enjoy correcting their grammar.

Surprisingly, I've never actually had anyone correct my grammar in the history of my time on the internet.
Of course, the fact that I've never corrected anyone else's grammar probably helps.

*waits for someone to inevitably correct grammar in this post... ヽ(ー_ー )ノ*

In This Thread:

People getting butthurt that their grammar is being corrected.

Having said that, I think it's important to teach people that they are wrong, when they mistakenly use a word wrong. Or generally can't write for shits.
