SAO is not all that underrated, it's quite mainstream, as a matter of fact.

I was joking, SAO is overrated and mainstream as hell

Alright!

Tasogare Otome x Amnesia is by far the best underrated anime. I bet you've never heard of it. Angel Beats and Another had a baby, this is the result.

Haibane Renmei. It's getting a bit old, but I'd argue it was one of the best anime of 2002.

Baccano is a fantastic anime to say the least. It makes a point to show us that a story isn't necessarily linear.
Have a quote from the show,
"Still, there are many more characters to choose from. And depending on whom you focus on, the same incident will behave like the surface of the ocean, Changeless yet ever changing. In other words, there maybe but one event but there maybe as many stories as there are people to tell them."
- Gustav St. Germain

Admittedly, it will most likely be confusing at first due to it's jumping between time periods, but as more and more information is revealed things become clear.

I've rewatched it at least 4 times and just writing all this makes me want to watch it again, so forgive me if I may seem a little biased lol. It definitely does a fantastic job at telling its story to the fullest.

On top of a very interesting story there is a great jazz sound track to fit the time period and the dub fits perfectly into the American mobster scene.

Don't be afraid to give it a chance, if you do, remember to watch the dub.

"Just remember, Baccano! ain't about beginnings and ends. It's about the twists and turns, bub. Paths don't cross in this story - They collide. Every Dick and Jane plays the lead and it's gonna be a bumpy ride."
- Back of the DVD Case

Now that that's over with, I would say the most underrated anime would be Problem Children Are Coming From Another World, Aren't They?
No Game No Life is almost a carbon copy of it, No Names : Blank, summoned to a new world in the same fashion, same story of the underdogs, look at this picture.

So similar yet it didn't seem to get as much as a fraction of NGNL's popularity. Just my 2 cents.

I don't mind if somebody's being little bit biased towards anime series. Shoot, I watched Samurai Champloo 4 times (subbed & dubbed). I'll check out Baccano soon.

I will assume the main point, or at least the point this thread reduced to is: "low key 'enough' shows we are fans of"?

My entries - Gantz, Gankutsuou, Maison Ikkoku, Blue Literature.

I heard of it when someone was bashing on how shallow School Days characters were and how His and Her Circumstances were actually human.

Stylistic, fun, great characters, animation and art are excellent, very unique, and the best soundtrack of any anime to date. I would go as far as saying it's extraordinarily underrated.
