I'd like to turn off subs completely on my bile devices. Easy enough to do on the windows flash web page but I can't figure it out on the iPad or my android phone. Neither can I right click on my android phone to disable subs watching on the website instead of the app.

The subs are hard coded into the episodes and can not be turned off on the mobile apps.

When CR first released the iOS app the subs were soft subs so you had the ability to turn them off. However, because of iOS's inability to change the subtitle size, when CR updated their app to support the iPad, the subtitles were extremely small with no way of making them bigger because of the limitations of iOS. There were also clipping issues. So to fix these problems CR decided to hard code the subs.

As for Android I think they probably went the hard sub route to lessen clipping headaches due to the vast differences in screen resolution from one device to another, as well as increasing performance on low powered devices. Rendering soft subs can cause video stuttering on low end android devices. Now, this is only my guess for why the subs are hard coded on Android.

Ouch. So much for my dreams of watching anime on my mobile devices sub free. Thanks very much for the informative response.

Why are the subtitles preventing you from watching the shows?

They're not preventing me from watching shows. I'm learning Japanese and it's good practice for me to turn off the subs is all. Hmm I was thinking if watched crunchyroll on my android phone via the web browser then maybe it would be possible... (except I have to figure out how to "right click" on the touch screen and I'm not sure that you can)

I don't use iOS app but others are also.
Sometimes English subtitles wrap the original JP string, so I'd like to hide them if it is possible.
Especially I was disappointed "Humanity Has Declined" episode 2

It isn't possible. See the message from -Chris311- for the technical explanation.
