If you mean every other app on the PS3 does (as certainly every other CR app doesn't), then I believe you are wrong. As one example, I don't believe Sony's own Crackle service provides HD streams.

AFAIK crackle doesn´t run through an app but through PS3´s own internet browser,so yes i believe my statement is still valid.

Weird the quality seems like HD on my Galaxy Nexus. It does not have an SD look at all though maybe they are just upscaling it much better on there. The artifacts are much too noticeable for me on my 42" 1080p television. I anticipate that they will make improvements with this app though like they have with the android app. :)

Here is a message from 14 days ago confirming no HD currently on Android:

Out of curiosity is your PS3 connected wirelessly or directly connected through ethernet? I didn't really notice artifacts with what I watched and it was mainly a feeling the colors were more muted than more vibrant colors in HD. So I'm wondering if the quality of picture has to do with the strength of the connection.

I also wonder if perhaps the different PS3 models might have different upscaling circuitry (i.e., a current model could conceivably have a better upscaler while also being less expensive, courtesy of Moore's law).

Although I noted it the reply you received that it doesn't apply in this case, packet loss over a wireless network would definitely result in artifacts in the picture.

Now I have something cool to use on my PS3 besides Netflix
Netflix is cool but they always have the same stuff so for variety I'm glad CR is coming to PS3.

Hahaha. There is no such thing xD. All the PS3 use the same hardware but are just built in a different box.

I was watching Naruto on the PS3 and the quality is Ok... I guess we can wait and see the improvements which i hope can come soon times on the way. As far as the crashing issue people are facing try re-installing the application. If that doesn't work then just wait for another patch.

Tried it on my old 60GB PS3 since it was a good excuse to turn it on and dust it off and it's the same quality as my 250GB Slim model so it doesn't seem the model has any impact on the quality.

Is anyone else having issues with this app? I just downloaded on my 160gb slim ps3 and tried playing a few episodes of Naruto. The video sometimes lags and gets out of sync with the audio. Sometimes the whole thing just freezes. Anyone experiencing this? I have my ps3 hooked up by CAT5 so it's not a connection issue. My Netflix works just fine with no lag and in HD so I don't see why CR won't work, unless it's a problem with the app.

I assume you mean what the hardware does hasn't changed as the hardware itself definitely has.

The Cell processor, for example, went from being manufactured with a 90nm process on the original model to 65nm, and on the current slim model to 45nm. Power consumption during normal activities has also dropped from 171-209 watts in the original model to only 61-79 watts in the slim. Two USB ports and the SD and CF readers in the first model were also dropped along the way. Oh, and there was also the removal of hardware used for PS2 compatibility.

In checking around, it appears the PS3 doesn't have a hardware upscaler, which means anyone that has the latest firmware probably would have the best upscaling, regardless of the age of the unit. That makes me wonder if those with less satisfactory results don't have a setting correct somewhere in their configuration. If that is the case, it would behoove CR to publish some "For best video" tips.

Well see it's on PS3, and if you're watching on an hdtv, it should be a) big enough to sit a decent distance away from, or b) small enough that 480 looks nice. I couldn't really tell it was 480p (from my own experience, articles mentioning SD aside) until I look at the screen when I was a foot away from it. In addition, bugs? Play an RPG when right they come out, or look on their respective wikis, they have notes on most pages for half of some games regarding game stopping bugs and the sort. Whenever something comes out it's always going to have bugs, though this isn't to say they'll always be there.

TL;DR --- Crunchy is on PS3, sit a couple meters away and it's always HD, it's free aside from your membership you'll be paying for anyways, and the GUI is pretty amazing.

Pretty cool, but still not there yet.

The UI is fantastic, best part of the app so far.

But, I tried it over wireless and with direct connection, and was running 15 mb/s and I still had lots of lag/freezes/artifacts etc.

Also, as of right now, the picture quality is better if you just watch on the ps3 web browser at 480p.(I don't care how fast of a connection you have, the ps3 web browser just can't handle 720p or 1080p)
And, a lot less lagging/artifacts etc. through the ps3 web browser.

Overall I think it could be a fantastic app, but until they get the picture and smoothness up to par with Netflix, I'll stick with my pc in glorious 1080p(i know 720p upscaled), or watching it through the ps3 web browser on 480p.

Yes that is what I meant. Its not the hardware cause everyone gets the same experience. The application should be updated for the upscales.
