Loved Mouretsu Space Pirates by Satelite and always loved Mecha anime since Gundam, Grandizer, Macross /Robotech.
First episode was a bit disjointed, not a lot happened and yet it skipped a lot, didn't develop characters much and yet I still enjoyed it and look forward to more of it.
I thought there was a fair bit of fanservice...

If you have any history of watching anime anywhere in the past couple decades, then I can only hope that you'd see that this anime is at the lower end of most notable series' in the genre. Just my opinion; they could have done a lot better. But to be fair to them, there isn't a lot that hasn't been done yet.

Well, if there's one thing, I enjoyed the OP song quite a bit this episode.
Also, quite the action as well as blood in the beginning so I guess business are starting to pick up. This also for some reason felt like watching Starship Troopers but with mecha when I've watching this with the "bugs" being those strange invaders. I'm still not sure to say the overall structure of this episode will work out for me though as it still seems rushed and not clicking well.
Gorelicious episode.

So grim. So very grim. I love it. Too bad it's a little censored though. When it's already so bloody and "gorelicious" I see little point in censoring.
It's like "Hey we got blood and guts everywhere, aliens and humans alike are getting torn apart left and right but a decapitation up close or some aliens feasting some human flesh, NNOOO!! 90% black screen *bop* have a nice day..."
Aaaw, sad face. Sorry, I always get nitpicky when it comes to censoring. Guess DVD sales gotta get promoted in any way they can.

A little more brutal than I was expecting. I guess that's the end of the prelude and we move on to the real show from here. So far I'm pretty interested to see where it goes, but damn, humanity is not doing so well in this war.

Some of the death scenes in the games got pretty nasty, I don't think it's going to get any better any time soon.

i remembered gundam so much while watching the first episode not that its like that but ....you know mechas, aliens ......it came up automatically ....i guess this will be a good series , dissapointed that didnt see any cool looking strong guys hehe ..i dont think its gonna be nice if only girls are there but hey fan service can compensate for that ....i would say its worth watching if you were interested in mechas before

Most of the fighting aged male population is likely already dead, if they're resorting to young girls. Especially if the aliens brutalized them the way it looks like they would have.

WEll the real story will actually begin in episode 3 and in ALASKA ...... , episode 1 and 2 are just a setup on how Yui changes eventually as a warior.
Even though this one has some fanservice , it seem to be not much so far but overall this one is interesting compared to all the fanservice anime this season.
And yes it is pretty brutal, everyone at the premier of episode 1 and 2 went "AaaaHHHH" and "that is so wrong ", I bet the creator Yoshimune sensei loved the reaction ha ha ha ha . The scene is like alien zombie muching on ....
Well I think Yoshimune also said that the male population has decline since the aliens reached earth which explain why the young women are trained to fight.
But I wish the animation is better.

This fucking scene right here, comedy gold, I even liked her as well. This and the "I've survived 8 minutes" girl 
Too bad though, apparently thing tone down a bit from ep3 onwards and nobody dies for a while. |

At least you arent too late ha ha ha.
Toning down would be good for a while so they can concentrate on the story and the characters. Its nice to have balance .

Man I'm so tired of black shadow censors, moslty because these are the kind that can literally take up 80-90% of the screen if a scene is that gruesome. I'm glad the prequel episodes are done though, I want the real story, not just seeing young girls getting shot down, destroyed, and devoured
