The idea of an armed rebellion is interesting, to say the least. The idea that people are fed up with the disregard of refugee's misplaced by the shifting battle lines is totally plausible.

But I agree with fish above me. The show seems to have tried to cling to it's Visual Novel roots a bit too much, and dispence with too much fanservice. I would even be ok with that had those filler episodes actually progress ANY of the characters. Bridges is the only one so far who has made any believable changes. Yui on the other hand flops around. She was an ice cold bitch at first, and then instead of slow, plausable change, it's 180 to bimbo harem girl.

I think the big problem is that the tone of the show was all over the place. While I personally disliked the first two episodes for character devoplment reasons, at the same time, it set a tone in the show that should have carried over all the way to the battles in Russia. But it didn't it flipped and flopped all around. When the tone came back during the battle at the airfield, it should have stayed that way. You can have a romance. Or even a romance triangle set during a massive training evolution. (See, Macross Plus). Instead we get hot springs and watery eyed half assed haremness.

Currently, the show is posied to set the tone back on track. And I do look forward the following episodes. But as one long series, it simply jumps around too much.

Still, giant f--king robots. That is all. d

right..... , I just remembered the episode
.
I mean I wasnt really taking this anime seriously , I got through the harem and other twists but....

The story is just going nuts . I dont get the direction and writting of the story . Whats wrong with those rebel alliance , sorry forgot what they were. I mean their main problem are the invading aliens , right ? and now they are killing , no not just just killing but annihilating the entire military and destroying the weapons for what , eqaulity ?

That is one suicidal rebels or one would say "stupid humans" . I guess they ALL want to DIE !!

Sorry for the spoiler , its not worth watching anymore.

I found the series entertaining at times but rather inconsistent in terms of story telling. Because of that, I had hoped for a better ending than we got. I found it rather underwhelming.

Pretty much my thoughts as well in regards to some of the episodes in between the finale. The episodes involving the RLF were quite entertaining to watch but some of the others were just underwhelming. The finale was average imo also.

It's possible they do another season given that ending but likely not yet for awhile. The fact

can be expanded upon in another season or a side story at best. Other than that, slightly above average series for me this Season.

Can't disagree with @Stark700 or @deadpandito, the pacing of the series was inconsistent. Although the RLF was a more believable adversary. I wouldn't mind a second season.

Lame endings seem to be the way of things at the moment, as with video games the 'in' thing to do appears to be to leave endings as open as possible for any chance of a sequel, doesnt usually work for me. An ending either has to be so 'WTF was that' to make me sit back and think for a while (End of Evangelion ending) or have an actual solid conclusion (bebop)

I agree with you on it being fun though, I would probably recommendatory it but I would make sure to say that its not great. I watched it because I enjoyed the first 2 episodes

But I generally found the character of Yui to be a bit overdone at the start and the general change in Yuuya/Yui just rushed. The way it happened was ok but rushed out. Series would also benifit (in my view) from less gratuitous bounce and general fan service, some of it 'makes sense'

as a joke, but most of it is just there for pointless titillation, I know its hard for an anime adaptation of an adult visual novel but Fate/Zero managed to pull it off and I dont even remember much fan service in StayNight. That said, the comic relief that it generated was sometimes a nice break, especially the scenes with the Chinese girl (Forget her name)

The mech fighting felt a bit stunted, I like the fact that they're shown to be more like MechWarrior style fat stompy heavy mechs but that only applies some of the time. They zoom around and stab at each other like madmen (or spin in the case of the Russians) but when it comes to spinning a blade around its like moving a tank.

Other than that the animation is high quality, sound assets are well used and the intro/ending didn't annoy me (I'm not a fan of Japanese music in general). Voice actors all seemed to do a good job but Stela and Cryska were the stand outs to me.

Even with the flaws (and they really were minor things that annoyed me), assuming you switch your brain off slightly, it was enjoyable. Plot holes? All over the place, dumb ideas? Yup, harem forming? Obviously. Does it matter? Not really. I dislike harem anime and I had fun with it. Fun enough that I'd be willing to recommend it as a 'if you want to watch something its worth a go' but not a 'omg watch this now'. I think that a second series, or atleast half series (12 episode OVA maybe) wouldnt go amiss, need to see what the sales are like first. If something like 'Say I love you' is doubtful for a second series I really cant say that I hold much hope..

It was fun to watch, looks like a second season is planned. Hopefully they will more than discover they love Yuuya by the end of the second season.

The pacing was odd. The last few episodes were really good. If the whole season had been like that it would have been better but ah well, what can you do? Beach and onsen episodes are fun but makes sure you make the main show first...

To be honest though, Id rather have those 2 silly episodes and some bounce-age here and there than completely rediculous fan-service ruining the entire thing. Its going to have it in so might aswell cram most of it into 2 episodes and let us ignore it for the rest of the time. It did come from an adult visual novel afterall

The only thing I can say that I liked with the last ep was the TSF fight between Yuuya and the Scarlet Twins as well as the ending scene after the credits with Yui and Cryska
Other than that, it was left too open (possibly for another season though I have no clue what it's chances are of that happening)

The finale was left opened because the story will be continued in a VN which, I believe, is coming out soon; I think it may have been released last month but I'm not sure.

Edit:

Did research and found out it will be released in Feb 28, 2013.

So we watched twenty five episodes of setup for a new VN... Sigh. Probably won't be available here.

Well, to be fair, the series is based off a light novel which is a branch off of the main Muv Luv VN triology (Extra, Unlimited, and Alternative); it's a bit of a miracle that one of the Muv Luv franchise got animated. I believe the LN ends quite differently from the anime and Age (the VN company) wanted to continue this story in a VN format.

EDIT!:

Today's Cryska's birthday so Happy Birthday Cryska!
