It's been several centuries since human beings declined due to the steep drop in birthrates. The most prosperous species on the Earth are "Fairies", 10 cm tall creatures with high intelligence. I became a UN arbitrator between the humans and the fairies and returned to my hometown to help my grandfather. I thought my job would not be a tough one and visited one of the fairies' habitats to say hello to them but...

#2 best show of the season

so damn funny, especially that bread sequence. This show has potential, just hope it lives up to it.

I'd rate first episode 8/10

I love how surreal it is and at certain points there is just that small hint of morbid humor. And I like the girl's commentary on certain aspects of her community which in a way sort of reflects our own society.

I also enjoyed the artwork it kinda gives off this upbeat vibe despite all the underlying morbid, dark and depressing themes...its still pretty entertaining.

Edit: Heh Starvation being a Fad.

It does express somewhat morbid themes despite its bright and cheerful appearance. I don't personally find this anime to be that great so far but I am interested in where its going to head from the first episode. Mainly I'm rather curious as to what kind of role the faeries will play throughout this anime. I don't quite remember exactly what was said about the faeries but I think she said that they were somehow either modern humans or humans from a previous era. Can anyone clarify if they've said exactly what the faeries are as of yet?

I think the light novels might offer more clarity, but I'm not sure if they started to discuss about the fairies at volume one or later volumes.

I really liked the warped and demented humour in this show. I was expecting to watch a preachy anime about saving the environment or something... instead I get suiciding carrot-bread xD!!

I watched this show and all I got was a calm acceptance of our impending extinction!

I've enjoyed the first episode. The black, sarcastic humor comes through loud and clear. Plus it helps to know some of the things the author is making fun of. Like when the bread was talking about making food from garbage, I think he meant this:

I also really like the artwork. The mixture of abstract patterns and surrealism work well with the show.

All in all, I think this is a show that will reward you for paying attention. If you want to just sit back and relax, then this probably isn't your show.

Looks like I have no taste as well. I decided to watch it again since I respect the OP's taste in anime and while I can see now why people might like this it just wasn't for me.

I get what they are trying to do with contrast in everything but it just doesn't work for me.
The bright vibrant colors in a dying world where humanity is hanging by a thread.
The cutesy voices and character designs compared to what is actually being said and acted out.
The mythical fairies that are actually causing lots of trouble (I am presuming they are behind everything)

I think the biggest turn off was just the voices themselves. I like cutesy voices and some cutesy anime but for some reason this voice cast gave me a headache. Maybe a lack of variety (besides the male roles) in that everyone sounds high pitched and kind? IDK

The humor would seem to be something I would really enjoy but, again, it just didn't work for me.
I'm just going by reaction on this one. I usually lol or at least smile to comedy in anime and, while surprising and original, the

Well at least with the re-watch I can see why people would like it a lot but I think I am going to wait for some other anime to come along.

I think you guys are underselling how bleak this show actually is.

Black humor doesn't begin, it really expresses well the sense of decline.

The show itself undersells the bleak and depressing undertones of the show with its artsyle and cutesy voices.

Yeap a dark anime in a cute artsy funny package like everyone noticed.

But those chickens man... of course they wont bear eggs !!! they are dudes!! My family had a poultry when I was a kid, those are not female chickens. And the headless chicken, well, they actually do that when you just go "off with their heads" ha ha ha .....except for the comedic scenes

And that bread scene, damm who wants to eat that after that ....

Well I added it on my list to watch for now.

The animation is amazing though .

I watched the first episode twice in a row. The first time I was stunned by how surreal and ridiculous it was, but on a second viewing I still thought it was funny in a dark and twisted way. I like the more subtle and mature sense of humor it has -- I'm referring to some of the jabs at politics, bureaucracy, corporations, and mass production. And yeah the bread loaf was what sold the show to me.

I was hoping Tari Tari would be the show to watch this summer, but it's no Hanasaku Iroha, and it just makes me wish we had more Hanasaku (like a season 2 not a movie or whatever "visual work" is coming out later this year). Total Eclipse was alright. It kinda reminds me of Gunbuster which I should finish watching some day. But this crazy show is my pick this summer. I can only hope that episode 2 is nuttier than this.
