Whats up guys,
If you loved Chihayafuru, then you're going to love the brand new title that just joined our simulcast family: UTAKOI!!! UTAKOI will be available to Crunchyroll’s audience in the following territories: America (North, Central and South), UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden. In case you wanted to whet your appetite before viewing: “UTAKOI is a historical romance story based on Ogura Hyakunin Isshu's interpretation of a collection of 100 romance poems that are used in traditional Japanese karuta card/memory game” UTAKOI takes life based of the very liberal interpretation of the Hyakunin Isshu anthology of poems featuring 100 romantic poems from 100 different poets such as The Tale of Genji's Murasaki Shikibu. However this romantic – both in story and artistic design – series starts its focus with some twists and turns centered around the love between Fujiwara and her romantic interest Ariwara…” Stay tuned in for more potential announcements on the way... 6/13: Total Eclipse 6/14: The Ambition of Oda Nobuna 6/15: YuruYuri Season 2 6/29: Horizon on the Middle of Nowhere Season 6/29: Chitose Get You!! 6/29: Campione! 6/29: So, I Can't Play H! 6/29: Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita 6/29: Natsuyuki Rendezvous 6/29: Kokoro Connect 6/29: La storia della Arcana Famiglia 6/29: Tari Tari 6/29: Sword Art Online 6/30: Cardfight!! I loved it, I also watched Chihayafuru. So when I read that UTAKOI was gonna be about the poems that are in Karuta, I have been wanting to watch it. Japanese classic literature is awesome.

Fujiwara is based on a real person, it would seem.... Japanese literature is lovely, and Heian literature is exceptional. But for a prosperous urban society, it was remarkably hard to live in, and very cruel on people. Reading The Pillow Book of Sei Shonagon (nonfiction, sort of a Heian blog) or The Tale of Genji leaves one with the overwhelming feeling that one really doesn't want to live there. So yes, this is a lot of art made out of sorrow, constriction, and boredom. |
