Anime Convention Preparation
Posted 7/4/12

I'm sure this topic doesn't just apply to me and I apologize if the thread has already been posted previously.

I've never been to a convention although I've always wanted to and despite wanting to cosplay I have no money nor the talent to create my own costume.

That's beside the point; there is an anime convention coming up where I live, it'll be the first I've ever attended.

What checklists, tips, things people need to be aware of, suggestions etc do you experienced convention goers have for a newbie like myself?

Take a good look at the pamphlet and choose wich events you want to go to...In order to not spend your life in the vendors hall... Don't be scared if someone just comes to you and engages a conversation, most likely if you have a costume... And bring money, said and said again

So basically what I got from this is, you don't normally shower or put on deodorant before you go out....

Preperation for a con? Well, I'm going to be doing that in a few weeks, so I can definitely help with that:

-Note how many days you will be there. Bring that number of sets of clothes, PLUS 1, in case something should happen to one of them. If you cosplay, your costumes do NOT count toward your clothing sets, unless it's actually comfortable to be in all day in the heat.
-Pack all your toiletries on the morning of- right after you've used them. Toothbrush, toothpaste, and deodorant are the musts; other things can be soap or shampoo if you're sensitive (hotels do provide these), and a razor if you must remain clean-shaven.
-Speaking of the hotel, what are your sleeping arrangements? Do you have a bed or floor spot? Is there something you will need to sleep better for your location? Hotels usually have tons of extra blankets on beds, but a pillow might not be bad.
-Planning on buying things? Pack space! Don't jam your suitcase full, only to have to wonder where you're putting all your newly purchased loot.
-Not buying much due to a tight budget? Pack some snacks in that space. It may enable you to save money on food, letting you at least get some sort of souveneir.
-On this note, the money itself. Have a variety of bills if you can, change can be in short supply on the last day! (ATMs will probably also be out of money by this point, too... hence the lack of change from all those $20s!)
-Recreational packing should be minimal. Something like a 3DS (don't forget the charger!) and a handful of games should be plenty.

I read it just fine. Telling someone they should shower and put on deodorant is like telling them they should wear clothes. Do you honestly believe that without your suggestion she would have showed up at the convention dirty faced, smelling like arm pits? People with good hygiene shower and put on deodorant no matter where they are going. People with bad hygiene, don't. And no forum post is going to change that. That's really just basic common sense.

Well I try to keep planning for a con simple.

1. Make sure you have all papers ie regristation and reservations printed off and packed
2. Pack the night before as best you can to avoid the morning rush
3. Never forget part of your cosplay (almost happened this year)
4. Have normal clothes on the way if you can
5. Make either a budget or item limit for the dealers room
6. Keep cell phone, wallet ect on you in a secure place
7. Watch some anime the week before to get you pumped
8. If space bring a book or game to play well waiting in line
9. Sunscreen I'm serious
10. Make a list of all important events ahead of time so that you don't miss them

~sigh~ i really dont know why you love to Troll.I merely just gave a statement some friends told me about when going to cons. I see no need to get angry at a statement.I understand where your coming from, and MAYBE the person asking or other spectators looking at the comment dont shower or put Deo on when they leave the house. Obv, if my friends and a large portion of the Cosplay Community are saying to shower and put deo on, even tho its a basic thing most people do. Some people dont do it. Thats All.

Here's my suggestions.

1. Pack 24 hours before and pack light so that there is room for you to bring things back. Bring along the Nintendo DS or 3DS and some games so that you have something to do while waiting in lines.
2. Wear sneakers or bring them along.
3. Bring a cooler. Put bottled water, drinks in it so you don't pay a lot of money for it at the hotel.
4. Pack peanut butter and jelly since it doesn't spoil. Dried foods like instant ramen etc. are also good to bring along.
5. Bring money and know where the free ATMs are.
6. Shower. If you're not in a hotel room, find out where the public showers are and make sure they are safe to use.
7.Pack registration materials, hotel registration etc in an easily accessible spot.
8. Pre-register for a con to save money.
9. Use the online con schedules to plan your time at the convention.
9. If you're at a Rave, make sure that you stay hydrated. Powerade or Gatorade can be useful if you start to feel thirsty and you've been sweating alot.
